Kate and Martin are having problems in their marriage. Kate miscarried recently and both of them feel that their marriage is going nowhere. Still, they decide together to go on an island retreat in order to save their marriage. They travel to a location that's familiar to both of them: an island cut off from the rest of civilisation with plenty of happy memories from the years when they were in love.

No sooner have they got settled in when there's a banging on the door. A young military soldier called Jack, badly wounded, has collapsed on their doorstep and demands to be let in. When he has recovered, he has shocking news: a deadly virus, originating in South America, has apparently spread to other continents through the air, taking many victims. The only way to protect yourself from the virus is to stay locked up.
Kate and Martin are initially sceptical and they attempt to make the soldier leave. But by the next morning, they discover that Jack has boarded their house up. Tensions rise between the group and things come to a head when Jack reveals a distressing confession...
