Set in New York in the not too distant future, a sudden nuclear explosion happens in the city. In an apartment block near the explosion, the residents are hurrying down to the basement, which was converted from a fallout shelter. Only eight manage to make it inside - the rest are left to die in the blast.

The survivors - led by landlord Mickey - are confused and tired, which leads them to become argumentative with one another almost straight away. The basement itself - consisting of three small rooms, a little bit of food and a small bathroom - also grates the survivor's nerves.

Then the door of the basement begins to open... and men in hazmat suits take one survivor's young daughter and open fire on the rest, leaving them for dead. After a gruesome battle which sees people injured on both sides, the remaining few begin to develop cabin fever which turns them into ruthless predators as they fight for survival.

Anchor Bay's The Divide was directed by Xavier Gens and is based on a script by Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean.
