Logan Thibault is a US Marine Sergeant serving in Iraq on his third tour. One day, during a particularly dangerous mission, he notices something unusual half buried in the ground. Upon closer inspection, he discovers that it's a picture of a pretty blonde woman who looks to be his age. He begins to rejoin his group but a sudden explosion near by leaves him injured but alive.

From then on, the picture seems to bring Logan good luck. He finishes his tour and returns home, determined to track down the mysterious woman who brought him good luck. He discovers she's living in North Carolina and so sets out to meet her.

The woman is called Beth and she runs kennels with her family. Logan meets her and at first things get off to an awkward start. Beth later tells her grandmother that in order to make Logan go away, she had no choice but to offer a position to him at the kennels.

Logan and Beth soon begin a passionate romance, with Logan making friends with her young son. But when Beth's ex returns and questions Logan's presence, Beth begins to wonder what led Logan to her in the first place.
