Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit, who lives a quiet life in The Shire. His peace is interrupted one day when Gandalf arrives on his doorstep, persuading Bilbo to hold a party in his home. Bilbo refuses but has no choice but to agree when Gandalf pesters him.

The party turns out to be for Thorin Oakenshield and his twelve dwarves. After making themselves at home, they begin to sing a song about the Lonely Mountain and its vast wealth of treasure, guarded by a dragon, Smaug. Bilbo soon realises that the dwarves intend to travel to Lonely Mountain and steal the treasure. Gandalf insists that Bilbo comes along, serving as the group's burglar. Bilbo eventually agrees to go with the dwarves and leaves his home behind soon after.

Using a mysterious map of Gandalf's, the unlikely group travel from The Shire, to a village called Rivendell. On their journey, they encounter an assortment of characters and do battle against a myriad of creatures. Can they steal the treasure from under Smaug's nose without the dragon noticing?

Elijah Wood; Orlando Bloom and Andy Serkis are just a few of the many actors reprising their roles for The Hobbit; they reprise their roles as Frodo; Legolas and Gollum respectively. Peter Jackson is also returning as director; he directed all three of The Lord of The Rings movies.
