With the ghastly delights of Halloween, and the long awaited thrills and spills of the latest Bond movie to look forward to, as well as International Music Day, World Food Day, World Mental Health Day and of course Mole Day (Not what you may think) October has a lot to pack in. As the festive season fast approaches there also appears to be an extra impetus given to making sure that new releases come to market in a timely fashion and do not get caught up in the Christmas chaos. Whatever your thoughts on the inevitable new batch of sleigh bell enhanced holiday songs, you know that there's no point competing with the likes of Mariah Carey and getting lost in the increased traffic. October is in just the right place to ensure that your new music will be heard and that it will hopefully gain enough momentum to give it an extra boost of sales come Christmas. Following on from Tori's breakthrough album Little Earthquakes in 1992 and subsequently, Under The Pink, with it's huge single, Cornflake Girl some two years later, Boys For Pele came with a weight of expectation. Amos was only 32 at the time of the album's release and was only 31 when she started to record it in the June of 1995 but already it seems that Tori Amos had many things figured out.

The 90s is by far one of our favourite decades for music, not only because of its rich and diverse span of genres, but also because of the incredible female talent that came out of that time. Here are just a few of the greatest women-led albums of this extraordinary era.
1. Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes (1992)
This American redhead's debut album was actually a second attempt which she worked on with her then boyfriend Eric Rosse following the break-up of her band Y Kant Tori Read. It became a tour de force, breaking pop conventions with its acoustic piano and Tori's unusual vocal style, and lyrics that range from the funny to the surreal. It's a sublime commentary on female sexuality and it hasn't aged a day.

Tori Amos Tackles Nature With Her Upcoming Fall Album 'Native Invader'

'Native Invader' is Tori Amos' latest album which arrives during her world tour.
Tori Amos is returning with her fifteenth studio album 'Native Invader' later this year to coincide with her forthcoming world tour. The album is all about the contrast between the attitudes of nature and that of humankind, and marks quite the turning point in her music career.
'Native Invader' marks the American singer-songwriter's first release on Decca Records and comes three years after her US number 7 album 'Unrepentant Geraldines'. Since then she has contributed to the Netflix documentary 'Audrie and Daisy' with the song 'Flicker' and the original cast recording of the stage play 'The Light Princess'.

Tori Amos, Night Of Hunters Album Review

'If music be the food of love, play on;
Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.'
Tori's appetite shows little signs of waning but her desire to play on seems to have been unnecessarily constrained of late. Not by her inability to convey the mysteries and complexities of love, she is still a supremely gifted songwriter, but by her seemingly increasing desire to place undue pressure upon herself. Tori Amos remains a fabulously talented, unique and inspirational artist who has composed some fantastic songs over the last twenty or so years. She can be brutally frank and open, as confusing as quantum physics and have the poetic nuance of the Romantics all in the same song. She can write pop, dance, country, folk and rock. She can do what she puts her mind to, and usually with stunning results. She has the talent, that is in little dispute. Why she feels the need to manipulate, suffocate or restrict her work does however frustrate me somewhat especially when you compare it to her previous, less stifled work. You can't play a violin quite so well with one arm tied behind your back, you can't take a penalty as well with your legs tied together and you can't be expected to produce magnificent material if you tie yourself to a song cycle that traces back through four hundred years of previously composed music. She's right in thinking 'This is not a small task'. Yes it may produce some interesting results, throw up some curiosities and enhance or alter some future work but, as unfortunately turns out to be true, it's unlikely to be her best work, however polished, professional and heartfelt it maybe.
Tori Amos - Carry
Tori Amos' new single, 'Carry' was released on August 18th 2011, and is the first single to be taken from the singer songwriter's upcoming twelfth studio album, 'Night of Hunters'. Her album will be released on September 20th through the German classical label Deutsche Grammophon, making it Amos' first album to be released through a classical music label.
