From Everything Everything to Idles, it's been a great month for music.
It's been a bit of a mix of dark truths and determined positivity when it comes to some of our favourite albums of September, but that's exactly the sort of thing we expect as we come up to the final quarter of 2020. Indie bands have been on top form though, and whether you want to upbeat tunes or melancholy ballads, these records have got you.

Theo Hutchcraft gave 'Modern Love' to The Courteeners after Liam Fray serenaded him from a skip and no longer considers the song his own.
Theo Hutchcraft gave a song he wrote to The Courteeners after Liam Fray serenaded him from a skip.
The Hurts frontman co-wrote 'Modern Love' with his bandmate Adam Anderson but couldn't find the right way to record it themselves, but they played it to their friends, and the rockers quickly fell in love with the song.
After Liam belted out his own version on a drunken night out, Theo knew he should give the song away to them.

Walk through a London bar and you're more likely to hear someone discussing a new Berlin-based producer who creates music with shoelaces than you are a discussion about 'popular' music. Pop is dirty, pop is your friend Jack who still listens to Mumford & Sons, pop is a WKD on a table of IPAs.
