Hannah is a beautiful, vibrant girl attending college. While studying, she auditions for a play and lands a role. On opening night, the curtain rises on Hannah. She opens her mouth to utter her first lines and collapses.

She is rushed to hospital to recover and soon the results of the medical tests performed on her come back. All signs point to Hannah's difficult birth but there is an unexpected twist in the tale. Hannah's parents sit her down some time after her fainting attack on stage and tell her that she shouldn't have lived. Hannah's birth mother tried to have her unborn daughter aborted but the attempt failed. With no other choice, the mysterious woman gave Hannah up for adoption.

Hannah is devastated that her whole life has turned out to be a lie. When Spring Break arrives, she recruits her childhood friend, Jason and their mutual friends to go on a road trip to find her birth mother.

The question she keeps getting asked is, 'What will you say to her when you meet her?' Hannah has no idea but what she discovers will change her life forever.
