Beirut's new single, Vagabond, is the latest to be taken from their successful third studio album, The Rip Tide, which was released in August 2011 through Pompeii Records. The band has announced an European tour, which will take place throughout May and June 2012.

The video for Vagabond was directed by Sunset Television, who had previously worked with Beirut on their previous single, Santa Fe. The video has a twentieth century feel to it, as sailors attempt to chat up some chain smoking nurses at a party. Beirut make an appearance as the band providing the music at the party.

Beirut initially started as a solo project for frontman Zach Condon (vocal / trumpet / ukulele) in 2006 but now comprises: Perrin Cloutier (accordion / piano); Nick Petree (drums / percussion); Paul Collins (electric bass / upright bass); Kelly Pratt (trumpet / euphonium) and Ben Lanz (trombone / tuba / piano). Their debut album, Gulag Orkestar, was released in 2007 to critical acclaim, as was their second album, The Flying Club Cup, which was released in the same year.

Upon its release, The Rip Tide peaked at number 80 in the Billboard Top 200 and at number 49 in the UK Album Charts. The success and critical acclaim of the album saw it appear on more than a few end of year lists.
