A$AP Rocky (born Rakim Mayers, 03.10.1988)
A$AP Rocky is an American rapper.
Childhood: A$AP Rocky was born in Harlem, New York City and brought up around Manhattan, including living in a shelter with his mother, before moving to Elmwood Park, New Jersey. His father was jailed for drug offences when he was 12. His brother was killed near his apartment when he was 13. This experience and his growing up made him want to go into rapping as a career. He started rapping at 8-years-old, inspired by the likes of The Diplomats, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, Run DMC and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
Musical career: A$AP Rocky was part of a hip hop collective in 2007 called the A$AP Mob. The acronym has a variety of meanings including 'Always Strive and Prosper', 'Assassinating Snitches and Police' and 'Acronym Symbolizing Any Purpose'. In 2011, a compilation of his YouTube hits entitled 'Deep Purple' was released by a Parisian fan. Soon afterwards, his single 'Peso' was leaked and ended up hitting the Hot 97 New York radio station as well as charting on the US R&B chart. He was approached by various record labels after unveiling a music video for his track 'Purple Swag' and soon released debut mixtape 'Live. Love. ASAP' which got him signed with RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music. In December of that year, he became a nominee for the BBC's annual 'Sound of 2012' poll. In 2012, he opened for Drake on his Club Paradise Tour alongside Kendrick Lamar. He later also performed at Pitchfork Music Festival. In that year, his A$AP Mob associate A$AP Twelvyy was accused by Rocky's former collaborator SpaceGhostPurrp (of Raider Klan) of attacking Raider Klan's Matt Stoops and Space subsequently made a YouTube video to show he was severing ties with the A$AP collective. He later alleged that they were copying Raider's style and stole some of their lyrics. Before an expected appearance on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon', he was arrested for fighting a 21-year-old in Manhattan and subsequently didn't appear on the show until a month later. In September, he made a guest appearance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards during Rihanna's song 'Cockiness (Love It)'. He released his debut album 'Long. Live. ASAP' in 2013 with his UK charting track 'Goldie' as the lead single. The album reached number 1 on the US Album chart as well as the R&B and Rap charts and even the UK R&B chart. His other works include the mixtape 'Lord$ Never Worry' which he worked on with A$AP Mob and released as a free download.
Personal Life: A$AP Rocky was arrested in 2012 after attacking a man in a clothing store in New York as well as two members of the paparazzi who filmed the incident. He was later charged with assault and robbery because he tried to snatch the photographers' cameras. His charges were later changed to the lesser crime of attempted grand larceny and the assault charge was dropped.
Met Gala 2021: The Three Pop Icons Who Took Our Breath Away
By Holly Mosley in Music / Festivals on 14 September 2021
Billie, Lil Nas X and Rihanna stole the show at the fashion event.
It’s the fashion event of the year and, as usual, all the charting pop icons were in attendance at the 2021 Met Gala. This year’s theme was American Independence and, as the saying goes, it was go big or go home - exactly the sentiment these celebs took with them to Metropolitan Museum of Art this week.
I would have hated to be at the Met Gala with Billie this year. Fellow attendees must have felt like the Ugly Sisters to her Cinderella. Clothed in peach tulle with a vintage wavy blonde bob, black eyeliner and a dusky red lip, she did designer Oscar de la Renta proud.

Zoolander 2 - Relax Trailer
Though Derek and Hansel have left the world of fashion modelling behind them, a part of both of them still has the wish to return to the stage and once again be crowned as the king of the runway. When some of the world's most famous celebrities are found murdered (all of whom have died pulling Derek's trademark Blue Steel pout) Interpol decide to recruit the two fashion veterans in a bid to infiltrate the current world of modelling - an industry that's evolved beyond the one they were originally accustom to.

Sam Bennett's Top 10 Hip Hop Albums Of 2015
By Sam Bennett in Music / Festivals on 22 December 2015
San Bennett picks his top albums of 2015
10. Jack Danz - Ouija Slang
Jack Danz is one third of Defenders of Style, leading exports of the West Yorkshire hip-hop scene (alongside Joe Snow and Prys) who also dropped their excellent The Death Of Meaning album this year. The producer/rapper released his debut solo LP Ouija Slang through Sheffield based independent label Bad Taste Records. The vivid imagery, hard-hitting eclectic production and a vast array of quotable punchlines (e.g. I'm in the club getting lifted like the world cup) make Danz's album one you can constantly revisit and repeatedly enjoy.
9. BlabberMouf - Da BlabberMouf LP
Dutch MC BlabberMouf's 2015 solo album is a breath of fresh air. It's rare that a rapper can sound so authentically nineties. Da BlabberMouf LP sounds as if it was recorded back in '95, and has been lost to the world until now. With a rapid delivery, raw energy and quality production, BlabberMouf spits with a unique charisma that sets him apart from the competition. European hip-hop is often overlooked, but this LP is one of the most impressive releases in a year dominated by quality American and British rap music.

A Guide To Clockenflap 2015
By Lauren Mullineaux in Music / Festivals on 27 November 2015
It does sound like something that involves a lot of arm flailing, but in actual fact Clockenflap is Hong Kong's biggest and best music festival.
What is it?
Hong Kong's music scene isn't exactly world famous, but Clockenflap has been doing a solid job of putting it on the map for the past eight years and 2015 is no different. With the biggest artists to date and record breaking sales it's definitely growing on the international calendar as one to watch. It takes place between Friday the 27th and Sunday the 29th of November in the West Kowloon Cultural District.
Why it's great?
Other than the fact that you've got that movie scene skyline as a backdrop you mean? Okay then. Well, first of all shows in Hong Kong are polite, like organised circle pit polite. Second, it's not too big yet. Granted the site of Worthy Farm is as big as all of Hong Kong it was never going to be quite that big, but if Hong Kongers are good at anything then it's utilising space and not an inch is wasted here with art installations, stages and plenty more packed in. Third, there's no camping and as if that wasn't enough there's no mud either! Hell, it's probably at least a balmy 24 degrees outside. Did we mention you couldn't camp even if you really, really were looking forward to spending three days in piss wet through stinky tent with a snorer?

Watch Rod Stewart And A$AP Rocky Join James Corden For The Latest Edition Of Carpool Karaoke
By Stephanie Chase in Music / Festivals on 15 July 2015
Stewart and Corden sang along to some of the legendary rocker’s biggest hits during the L.A. drive, including ‘The First Cut Is the Deepest’ and ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’.
Rod Stewart was the latest companion for ‘Late Late Show’ host James Corden on Tuesday night’s edition of carpool karaoke. The talk show host and the singer indulged in some of Stewart’s most famous hits during the car ride, which also featured a special appearance from rapper A$AP Rocky.
Opening with Stewart’s the ‘The First Cut Is the Deepest’ Corden quizzed the singer on the most memorable ‘rock 'n roll moments’ of his storied carrier. Staying pretty coy Stewart simply answered, "There's been so many. Just drinking and a shagging and a drinking and a shagging. Smashing up hotel rooms.”

By Chloe Dobinson in Music Reviews on 09 July 2015
New Look Wireless Festival drew to a close last weekend, with over 70 acts performing across 3 stages, all in celebration of their 10th birthday.
Drake took to the stage, after cancelling last year's headline appearance due to illness, and was definitely worth the wait being a standout 90 minute performance. The Canadian rapper was appreciative of the Wireless crowd claiming London was his 'second home' before being joined by local MC Skepta for track Shutdown.

Florence + The Machine Scores First U.S. Number 1 Album
By Ed Biggs in Music / Festivals on 11 June 2015
'How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful' is Number 1 in the UK and the States at the same time, only the ninth album this decade to do so.
Florence Welch may be recovering from a broken foot, but she’s got even more good news to make her feel better, as the third Florence + The Machine album has entered the American charts at Number One, her first record to reach the summit in the States.
How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful sold 137,000 copies in its first week on sale to debut at the top spot in the Billboard 200 albums chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan. As a result, Florence is one of the few artists who have managed to top the American and British albums charts at the same time – the ninth act to do so in the 2010s and the first since Ed Sheeran’s X last year.
