Steve Martin (born 14.8.1945) Steve Martin is an American comic actor, as well as a playwright, screenwriter and musician.
Childhood: Martin was born to Glenn and Mary Lee Martin, in Waco, Texas. He was later raised in California.
His first job was working at Disneyland, selling guidebooks to visitors, during his school breaks. During his time there, he would hang out at Merlin's Magic Shop and learn magic tricks there. In 1960, he was accepted for a job at the store, where he also learned to juggle, make balloon animals, and play the banjo.
Following his high school graduation, Martin took Drama and English classes at Santa Ana Junior College and then studied Philosophy at Long Beach State College. He later transferred to UCLA, where he majored in Theatre. Aged 21, he dropped out of his studies altogether.
Breakthrough into Comedy: In 1967, Martin was dating Nina Goldblatt, a dancer on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. With her assistance, he landed a job as a writer on the show and went on to win an Emmy for his work, in 1969. In addition to this, he also wrote for The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.
In the 1970s, Martin began appearing on shows such as The Gong Show, On Location and Saturday Night Live (on which he appeared alongside Dan Aykroyd), as a stand-up comic. At one point, Martin denied that his real name was Steve Martin and claimed it was Gern Blanston, a name that took on a life of its own and was briefly adopted by a rock band.
Martin's debut comedy album, Let's Get Small was a huge success, as was its successor, A Wild And Crazy Guy. Both of the albums won Grammy Awards for Best Comedy Recording.
Film Career: The actor's first film was the seven-minute The Absent-Minded Waiter, released in 1977. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Short Film, Live Action. He followed this up in 1979 by starring in The Jerk, which became a huge commercial success.
To avoid the dangers of being typecast, Steve Martin was keen to try his hand at a serious film. The result, Pennies From Heaven, was a failure, both critically and financially.
Martin's return to comedy was, thankfully, a success and he had a string of acclaimed performances in films such as Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, The Man With Two Brains and All Of Me. He was reunited with his former Saturday Night Live performers, Chevy Chase and Martin Short in ¡Three Amigos! Continuing his string of lucrative collaborations, he starred alongside John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Rick Moranis in Little Shop of Horrors.
In 1987, Martin co-wrote Roxanne, and earned himself an award from the Writers' Guild of America.
In 1989, he teamed up with Moranis again for Parenthood, a Ron Howard film and in 1991 starred in the hit film Father of the Bride.
In 2006, Martin reprised Peter Sellers' role in a remake of The Pink Panther, to a muted response.
Books: Martin has written two short novels, Shopgirl and The Pleasure of My Company. In 2007, he also published an autobiography, Born Standing Up
Personal Life: Martin was married to Victoria Tennant from 1986 to 1994. In 2007, he married Anne Stringfield. The guests, including Tom Hanks, Carl Reiner and Ricky Jay were not told beforehand that the 'party' was, in fact, a wedding.

Amy Schumer is moving from the big screen to the Broadway stage with her official debut in the Steve Martin play 'Meteor Shower'. She'll play the character of Corky in the show, who alongside her husband invites another couple round for an unforgettable and quite unconventional dinner party.
It was announced yesterday (August 7th 2017) that the 36-year-old comedienne would be starring in the brand new stage comedy by the legendary actor and comedy star that is Steve Martin. It's only his second Broadway production after last year's 'Bright Star' which he wrote alongside Edie Brickell.

If the Donald has done any good, it’s bringing the former ‘Late Show’ host out of hiding.
Former ‘Late Show’ host David Letterman came out of retirement on Friday night, to make a very special appearance onstage with comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short in San Antonio, Texas. Martin and Short are currently on the road with their stage show, A Very Stupid Conversation…With Music and invited Letterman to share his thoughts on Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
"Back in Hollywood, we met at a Scientology mixer and they have been so kind and so generous to invite me here to this beautiful city,” 68 year old Letterman told the crowd. "I am so happy to be out of the house. I retired and I had no regrets—none. I was happy. I was complacent. I was satisfied. I was content. And then a couple of days ago, Donald Trump said he was running for president. I have made the biggest mistake of my life, ladies and gentlemen.”

David Letterman's 'Late Show' set has been dismantled mere hours after the final episode aired.
David Letterman's Late Show set has already been thrown in the trash. The talk show host's last show was on Wednesday night (20th May) but within 24 hours the set had been dismantled and parts of it could be seen in a dumpster close to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York.

'Home' Is A Hit Even Before It Opens

DreamWorks Animation have released 'Home' a week early for Mother's Day, leading to a successful box office before it's official release.
While 'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' held on to the top spot on the British box office chart for the third straight week, the real champion last weekend was the riotously enjoyable DreamWorks animated adventure 'Home', which played a series of preview screenings in advance of it opening across the country this weekend.
While 'Second Best' took an impressive £1.4m in its third weekend of play, 'Home''s previews brought in £2.45m on Saturday and Sunday alone. Cleverly marketed as a UK Mother's Day treat, the film drew families to cinemas in huge numbers. This preview income will be added to 'Home''s tally this weekend for next week's box office chart, which means it could beat the second 'Divergent Series' movie, 'Insurgent', to the top of the chart.

A sharp script and especially colourful imagery make this animated romp a lot more fun than expected, entertaining grown-ups just as much as the kids. It may be the usual frantic action comedy, but there's an edge to the humour and a continual stream of knowing gags and witty references that keep us laughing. As a result, the busy plot is surprisingly involving, and the action scenes are genuinely thrilling.
It opens in outer space with the Boov, a race of blobby creatures that are only good at one thing: running away from their sworn enemy the Gorg. Their leader Captain Smek (Steve Martin) has selected Earth as their next hiding place, so they swoop in and corral mankind into Happy Humantowns in the Australian Outback while the Boov occupy the cities, hilariously trying to make sense of everything they find there. But a Boov named Oh (Jim Parsons) sticks out from the hive-like community. Friendlier and more curious than he should be, he inadvertently alerts the Gorg to their location. So he goes on the run, meeting up with the human teen girl Tip (Rihanna), who has managed to hide out with her chubby cat Pig and now wants to find her mother (Jennifer Lopez). Pursued by Smek and top cop Kyle (Matt Jones), Oh and Tip must dart around the globe to solve both of their predicaments.
Based on Adam Rex's novel The True Meaning of Smekday, the story is packed with lively twists and turns, and the filmmakers bring it to life with energy, humour and some real emotion. The animators pull out all the stops as they play with outrageous colours and eye-catching action, while the Boov's ability to selectively control gravity adds plenty of scope for additional mayhem. For example, Oh and Tip travel the globe in a car that Oh soups up Back to the Future-style so they can fly to Boov central command in Paris and then on to Australia. These kinds of knowing film references flit across the screen all the way through their adventure.

The overly-confident alien race, the Boov, have faced some difficulties in their time, but they've just discovered a new planet that they can call home. The only drawback? The planet's name is Earth, and it already has inhabitants. But when, arguably the source of their problems, Oh ('The Big Bang Theory''s Jim Parsons) is abandoned by his race, he runs across a new friend. Tip (Rihanna), is a renegade, and after escaping from the occupation of the Boov with Oh, the two begin a road-trip with a difference as they try to find their way in the world and make their own home.

Steve Martin To Receive AFI Life Achievement Award

Steve Martin has been announced as the next recipient of the American Film Institute’s highest honour, their Life Achievement Award. The 69 year old will receive the award at a special gala tribute to take place on June 4, 2015 in Los Angeles.
