Could Doctor Who Christmas Special Be The Best Episode Yet?

The Doctor Who Christmas special - set to air on Christmas Day - features new music, new titles, a new costume and a sleek new Tardis, according to The Guardian. Writer Steven Moffat has promised plenty of surprises in the forthcoming episode, which stars Matt Smith's new sidekick Jenna-Louise Coleman.

"They [the new episodes] are immense, they are considerable and they will be full of tremendous surprises," said Moffat at a special preview of the Christmas episode, "We're not going to tell you [any details] but I promise we're going to take over television, trust me." It appears to be an ambitious instalment of the long-running drama - a 60 minute special featuring a seasonal splash of romance and Richard E. Grant, among others. Set in Victorian London, the episode follows the Doctor as he grieves the loss of Amy and Rory, though meets Clara (Colman) - his new companion. "I felt like I was on a blind date for a while . it's like putting two people together, 'Oh I know someone you'll really get on with - now go on and save the world," the former Emmerdale actress said of joining the cast. In other Doctor Who news, Moffat ruled out that Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock would ever share screen time with the Time Lord, "The doctor would just be furious because there would be someone else clever and tall in the room, and that's his job.Can you imagine it? They'd just stand there and sulk at each other," he said.

Doctor Who: The Snowmen airs on Christmas Day, 5.15pm, BBC1.
