Piper Kerman, author 'Orange Is The New Black', talks about the adapted TV series with executive producer Jenji Kohan, main star Taylor Schilling and actor Jason Biggs in a series featurette. Piper mentions that she wrote the book after everyone she knew wanted to know of her experiences after a 15 month stretch in prison..
'This is really the heroine's journey', Taylor says. 'It's Piper going out and dealing with the consequences of her own actions.' Talking about relationships in prison, she later adds, 'Survival is based on relationships. You can't survive on your own in prison, you have to be connected to people.' The series also raises questions about her own relationship with husband Larry Bloom. 'There's a lot of strain on their relationship and their commitment is definitely tested', says Jason Biggs who portrays Larry.
