Lady Gaga Reveals Artwork For New Single; 'Applause'

  • 29 July 2013

Lady GaGa is on the verge of releasing her first new material since 2011's Born This Way, but is clearly in no rush to get her new material out there just yet as she continues to tease fans with tidbits from her new material. The latest tease came in the form of some new artwork; the cover for her first single from third album ArtPop, which is due out this fall.

Gaga has been away from the spotlight for most of 2013

'Applause' is the name of the upcoming single, and although we now have the artwork for the single there's still at least a months wait to see in before we get our ears around the track. Gaga will make her live return - since prematurely dropping out of her 'Born This Way Ball Tour' in January to undergo hip surgery - at the MTV Video Music Awards next month (25 August), just days after 'Applause' is released, with Gaga-mania due to resume normal service soon afterwards.

The single art was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and consists of a mug shot of the star, covered in colourful paint. Her rainbow makeup is smeared across her face, looking as though she wiped it away after a crying fit, however Gaga reassured fans that despite the ominous cover the music itself will be more like her usual brand of poppy goodness.

The singer promised that her new material wont be too dissimilar from her old stuff

The single itself will be out on August 19, which is also the date that Gaga intends to make her upcoming album available to pre-order. The wait wont be short though, as ArtPop is scheduled for a November 11 release date. Before then, we'll get to see her making her film debut, when she stars in Robert Rodriguez's follow-up to Machete; Machete Kills.
