Honorary Oscars Coming Angelina Jolie, Steve Martin And Piero Tosi's Way

Angelina Jolie – alongside Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and costume designer Piero Tosi – will be awarded an honorary Oscar for her humanitarian work. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present the star with the honorary Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 5th Annual Governors Awards on November 16.

"The Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who've made indelible contributions in their respective fields. We couldn't be more excited for this year's honorees," reads a statement by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, which was released on Thursday.

Boone – talking to The Hollywood Reporter lauded Jolie for her "humanitarian efforts, and how she lives her life. Her support of humanitarian causes are really to be greatly admired," she added. These honorary awards are given out every year in recognition of "extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy".

Jolie is the youngest of the recipients of this year’s award, and has won an Oscar before. She was rewarded for her role in Girl, Interrupted back in 2000, and received a further nomination for her turn in Changling. Tosi is the first ever costume designer to get the award.

The 86-year-old Italian has been Oscar-nominated five times, and remains best known in his field for his work on Luchino Visconti's films The Leopard, Death in Venice and Ludwig. Actress Lansbury has received three Oscar nominations over the course of her career, for Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Manchurian Candidate.
