Vince Gill Confronts West Borough Baptist Church To See What "Hate Looked Like"
Country singer Vince Gill confronted the West Borough Baptist Church protesters that were outside the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts in Kansas City, just ahead of his concert this past Sunday (Sept 8, 2013).
The religious group are known for their protests against Jewish institutions, homosexuality and picketing outside the funerals of fallen U.S soldiers killed in combat due to their eccentric beliefs that God is punishing the US for abandoning all morals.
The Baptist Church chose to target Gill due to the relationships in his personal life. Gill was married to Janis Oliver, one half of 'the Sweethearts of the Rodeo', from 1980 until 1998.
After the divorce he married singer-songwriter Amy Grant, prior to this Grant was married for 13 years to singer-songwriter Gary Chapman from 1982 until 1999. To the West Borough Baptist Church this is an act of adultery, as he has married another women after his divorce. They do like to get personal.
The confrontations between Gill and the protesters has been doing the rounds on the web as a camera phone caught the whole thing.
As Gill approaches the protesters, one asks him "Vince Gill, what in the world are you doing out here?"
His reply was simply "I just came to see what hate looked like".
The protester than asked "well more importantly what are you doing with another man's wife?" the confrontational women continued "Don't you know that divorce plus remarriage equals adultery?".
Gill responded "Don't you know that you f--kers are lucky that you don't have a sign that says something about my wife?" and referring to Jesus Christ "He said a lot of stuff about forgiveness, about grace. You guys don't have any of that".
In previous instances the West Borough Baptist Church haven't had a positive response with the American public, so it will be no surprise if Vince Gill's fan base suddenly rises through his dispute with the religious cult.
The WBC recently protested outside a Taylor Swift concert in Kansas City and accorind to thier website plan to protest a 'Mumford and Sons' gig on September 20th because "[they] happily push the soul damning lie that "it's ok to be gay" for filthy lucre's sake".
The WBC is led by Fred Phelps and has no connection with any Baptist Church.
