'Dumb And Dumber To' Release Date Announced: 9 Things We Know About The Sequel

  • 19 November 2013

The long-awaited Dumber and Dumber sequel, titled _Dumb and Dumber To,_ has finally been given a release date as filming for the follow-up to the oft-quoted 1994 movie continues. Set 20 years later, the movie will revisit bungling friends Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas 20 years after their first adventure.

So let's lay out what we know so far about the 2014 movie.

1) Well firstly it's called Dumb and Dumber To (totally) which is bound to provoke confusion and typos in the run up to the film's release but if even the title of the sequel has got us laughing, well, it's definitely a good sign.

2) Lloyd? Is That You?

Although both actors have experienced strong success in their post-Dumb careers since 1994, it appears that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were quick to sign up to a revival of their characters, with fuzzy wigs, goofy teeth and bowl cuts as part of the package.

Carrey tweeted a snap of Lloyd's trademark chipped tooth with the caption "GESS HUUZ BAK BICHEZ?" Daniels replied to Carrey's tweet with "Lloyd? Is that you?!!! #DumbTo." The exchange sent Twitter into a frenzy of excitement as the rumours were proved true.

3) A Mega-Buck (Toothed) Movie

The sequel is reportedly budgeted around the $30 million mark which is over twice the budget of the 1994 original. Despite its $14 million costs, Dumb and Dumber went on to take $247m worldwide. Although a huge budget doesn't guarantee that the movie will be funny or even successful, it shows that the filmmakers are confident that they can pull off another classic.

4) Painfully Funny

The Emmy winning actor Jeff Daniels has described the sequel as "painfully funny," explaining that Lloyd and Harry are all grown up in the sequel. "We're middle-aged and still that stupid," he said, via The Huffington Post. "Our IQ has not gone up one point combined, so it's a frightening thing. You're gonna see the two of us standing there trying to put thoughts together and you want to put underneath, 'Kids don't do this at home.' It's that stupid."

Daniels has also said that the writers have somehow managed to top the infamous toilet scene with some even more grisly and cringe-worthy scenarios, according to NME.

5) It Has Nothing To Do With 'When Harry Met Lloyd'

Sure, there was the 2003 "prequel," Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd with Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen portraying Harry and Lloyd through their high school mishaps but despite a few glimmers of the original, the movie was widely panned as a rotten tomato and it was agreed that Carrey and Daniels were key to the movie's success.

6) Jennifer Lawrence Chips In

She may be the most sought-after actress in Hollywood right now but Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she has a soft spot for comedy films like Dumber and Dumber and Step Brothers. THR has reported that on a day off from filming the final Hunger Games instalment, Mockingjay, Lawrence spent a day working on the sequel to the 1994 hit. Due to both films being in production in Atlanta, insiders say that not only has the entirety of the Mockingjay cast dropped by to say hi to Jim Carrey et al. but Lawrence will actually appear in the film in a noteworthy role.

7) Empire of the Sun In On The Act

Electro duo Empire of the Sun are apparently providing the score for Dumb and Dumber To. At this stage we have no idea of what Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore have in store for the movie but their chilled out brand of electronica will make an interesting choice of soundtrack for a slapstick comedy movie.

8) Warner Brothers Dropped It Like A Hot Potato

Universal had to step up and foot the bill for Dumb and Dumber To after Warner Bros. reportedly got cold feet due to a lack of interest. At the time Carrey too stepped away from the movie after receiving a lukewarm response from the studio. "I would have thought 'Dumb and Dumber To' was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title," he said in a statement.

However, Carrey dispelled fears at the SXSW opening night premiere of his latest comedy, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. "I'm ready," he said. "There is a script. It's fun. Jeff and I are raring to go."

9) Luckily, Universal were on hand to save the day and it's full steam ahead for a wide release on the 14th November 2014. Yeehaa!
