James Corden For Fifth And Final Brit Awards, Let's Relive Adele's Speech Interruption

  • 28 November 2013

James Corden has confirmed that he’ll be hosting the 2014 Brit Awards; it’ll be the fifth time he’s taken it on, making him the longest serving presenter of the awards in history, and it’s not as if his tenure has gone without controversy.

"I really love the Brits. I'm such a fan. I'll miss not doing it after this one but fully intend to enjoy every second of Brits 2014,” said Corden on his affinity with the annual award show. In 2009 he hosted the ceremony with Mathew Horne and Kylie Minogue, in addition to holding the mic solo three times.

This year's show, which is set to take place as the O2 Arena in London, will feature performances from Arctic Monkeys and Katy Perry, among others. "The Brits has always showcased the music that I love and am influenced by. It's an honour to play at such a prestigious event where musicality shines at its brightest," Perry said.

Brits chairman Christian Tattersfield said: "We are extremely ambitious for the 2014 show, showcasing global superstars and celebrating the incredible success of British music. We are going to pull out all the stops to make this the biggest and most exciting Brits ever". (The Telegraph)

Last year’s Brits will probably be remembered for two things: polka dot statuettes and that acceptance speech interruption.

How to get into Adele's bad books

It was all set up for British sensation Adele to give a heart-warming, thankful speech, in which she marked what was a spectacular year for the powerhouse singer by appreciating everyone who helped her. The Brits suits had different ideas, funnelling the order to halt the speech in its tracks down to command line, into Corden’s ear and ultimately embarrassing both the host and the award winner.

“Here’s Blur!”, Corden sheepishly announced. But the damage was done. Adele gave the middle finger to the crowd, later confirming that it was intended for those upstairs; the ones who halted her speech not half way through. "I can't believe that's what they were asking me to do. I delayed for 15 seconds. They wanted to cut her short as time was running out," said Corden, according to The Telegraph.

Speaking after the awards Corden said: "I was furious and put in a horrible position. I went straight to Adele's dressing room and she was fine with me, but really upset. She had a speech and had a list of people she wanted to thank."
