Hollywood actors pay checks are staggering to the rest of us but what makes it worse is if they actually don't deserve the millions of dollars they receive. Forbes magazine has released its list of Most Overpaid Actors in 2013 which highlights individuals whose wages aren't justified by the film's box office earnings.

Leading the way is Hollywood's funny man Adam Sandler, the 47 year-old has been at the top of the Hollywood ladder for several years now after starring in memorable films such as 'Billy Madison', 'Happy Gilmore', 'Big Daddy' and 'The Longest Yard' to name a few.

However, lately Sandler's recent films haven't been the box office blockbuster the actor's pay check might have indicted. Forbes magazine claims Sandler's price for each film is approximately $15 million but this doesn't seem to translate to the earnings of 'Jack & Jill' and 'That's My Boy', which were considered flops, he only returned an average $3.40 to every $1 he made.

In second place is romantic comedy expert Katherine Heigl, who is well known for her roles in 'Knocked Up', 'The Ugly Truth' and 'New Year's Eve' plus many more. After some considerable success she began to demand large fees for her services and studios did pay but after the flops 'Killers' and 'One For the Money' Heigl may have to rethink her fees.

According to the mag, the 35 year-old returns $3.50 for every dollar she makes.

Reese Witherspoon lands in third position with a return of $3.90 for every $1 she makes, but the 'This Means War' actress is currently "reinventing her career" as her production company is buying film rights to "female-centric books" which means she will take more of a behind the scenes role in the future.

with a return of $3.90 for every $1Nicholas Cage ranks No.4 as the 'Gone In 60 Seconds' star only returns $6 for every $1 paid, and rounding off the top 5 is a co-star to Adam Sandler on several occasions, Kevin James. The comedy 'Her Comes The Boom', starring James, follows a teacher trying to raise money by embarking on a MMA cage fighting career.

It wasn't a huge box office success causing the 'Grown Ups' actor's return to only be $6.10 for every dollar he earns.

Finishing off the top 10 are Denzel Washington, Steve Carell, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Damon and Ryan Reynolds.
