People's Choice Awards: Our 5 Top Moments From The Glam Evening

L.A's Nokia Theater played host last night to a glittering array of stars for the annual People's Choice Awards, gathering together to celebrate popular culture. We present a round-up of the top talking points from the extravagant and entertaining evening.

1) Sandra Bullock Cleans Up

Anyone who's seen space thriller Gravity this year will understand why Sandra Bullock almost needed a forklift truck to transport her mountain of People's Choice Awards trophies home. The actress, who plays a space scientist fighting to save her own life in Gravity, netted four wins celebrating her turn in Alfonso Cuarón's movie as well as her comedy role as a cop in buddy-comedy The Heat.

Looking fresh in an abstract floral dress, Bullock picked up three awards for being the public's favorite movie actress, dramatic movie actress and comedy movie actress for Gravity and The Heat. She and Gravity co-star George Clooney also won favorite movie duo while the film won favorite drama movie.

"An actor can't do what they do without hundreds of amazing people working for them and alongside them. I learned so much this year. I got to work with Melissa McCarthy on 'The Heat.' ... And on 'Gravity,' the nicest people in the world would string me up and leave me there, and I still had an amazing time," the Oscar-winning actress said.

2) Nina Dobrev & Ian Somerhalder Made To Squirm

Former couple Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder exchanged a particularly awkward kiss when the headed on stage to collect the best onscreen chemistry award. The Vampire Diaries ex-couple's on screen romance used to mirror real life until they called time on their relationship.

Nevertheless, the pair are clearly still good friends and were spotted chatting and joking around as they sat next to each other at the awards. They even joked about the break-up in their acceptance speech, perhaps to dispel the awkwardness.


Ian Somerhalder Took The Opportunity To Plant A Kiss On His Ex To Get The Gossips Fired Up.

"Good thing it's not awkward," said Nina, before a deliberately awkward silence fell. "Well, it's a good thing we have chemistry," beamed Nina before Ian leaned over and gave his ex a big kiss on the cheek as if to show that things aren't nasty between the co-stars.

3) 'Two Broke Girls' Kat Dennings & Beth Behrs Smash Hosting

The People's Choice organisers must have been patting themselves on the back for appointing the Two Broke Girls actresses, Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs to host the awards ceremony for a second time. Anyone who's seen the comedy TV show knows the level of chemistry between the actresses and by transferring their wit to hosting, they proved a perfect choice.

There were too many great moments from Kat and Beth to run through them all but a particular highlight was surely the moment when a swarm of Two Broke Girls waitresses stormed the stage to serve cheeseburgers. Without trying too hard for laughs, the pair kept the audience laughing with plenty of musical impressions.

Hosting in character, the actresses incorporated nominees into their skits, such as Ian Somerhalder, Christina Aguilera and Kaley Cuoco, with hilarious results. The pair also rocked the red carpet with some stunning outfit changes and making the whole daunting prospect of hosting a nationally televised event a breeze.

4) Jennifer Hudson Honoured For Her Relentless Philanthropy

Jennifer Hudson was honoured at the awards for her tireless philanthropic work helping others. The actress and her sister Julia appeared at the People's Choice Awards to collect the second annual favorite humanitarian award. Hudson was presented with the award to honour her work via the Julian D. King Gift Foundation which provides positive experiences for children so that they may in turn become productive and happy adults who'll support their communities.

The foundation was born from a horrific family tragedy that saw Jennifer's nephew and Julia's son, Justin King, shot dead. From a horrendous situation, the pair have helped forge a beacon of hope for Chicago families and future generations. The actress said that the award will bring a welcome spotlight upon the foundation and enable them to continue working hard.

"Thank you for honoring me with the Favorite Humanitarian Award. My sister Julia and I were raised with the belief that helping others was always very important. I am so grateful that the People's Choice Awards and Walgreens have come together in the same spirit," an emotional Hudson said. "This spotlight will provide us with the opportunity to share all the amazing work being done by the Julian D. King Gift Foundation for children in the city of Chicago and around the United States," she added.

The award is accompanied by a $100,000 donation to the Foundation which can be raised by an extra $100,000 by customers who kick on the People's Choice icon on the Walgreen app.

5) Justin Timberlake Leads Evening Of Musical Triumph

Justin Timberlake's three-award victory at the People's Choice Awards rounds off a tremendous 2013 for the popstar and heralds what is sure to be a successful 2014. Timberlake, 32, returned to hit-making in 2013 with the two-part release of the monstrously successful The 20/20 Experience after more than five years away spent focussing on acting.

Justin picked up three awards including favorite album, favorite male artist and favorite R&B artist. He was beaten in the favorite pop artist category by Britney Spears, who won her first People's Choice award in her 15 year career. "I'd like to thank my parents for continuing to instil in me that no dream is too big. I'd like to thank my team that puts up with my ridiculous neuroses all the time - sorry, but not really, because look at this," the singer said, referring to one of his awards.


'Brave' Singer Sara Bareilles Helped Provide The Evening's Musical Entertainment.

Though Justin didn't perform during the evening, no one was left wanting for musical entertainment with Sara Bareilles and One Republic who got the party started with their chart-stomping pop. Of course, let's not forget our hosts Kat and Beth who gave their renditions of such "classics" as 'Wrecking Ball' and 'Baby Got Back' - complete with diva-esque attitude!
