Who's Who In Fifty Shades Of Grey [Pictures]

  • 26 January 2014

E.L. James' bestselling trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey has become a cultural phenomenon since the publication of the first instalment in 2011. The trilogy is being adapted into a series of films which, despite the first tame poster released yesterday by Universal, promise to be as risqué as the books.

Anastasia 'Ana' Steele

Anastasia Steele, an English student at Washington State University, has an obsession with intense classic literature and a change encounter with Grey leaves her questioning all her preconceptions about sex. Grey shows her a series of contracts which state their relationship, should she consent to the agreement, would never be romantic. Ana struggles to come to terms with the nature of her feelings for a man who shows affection through BDSM.

Dakota Johnson, the daughter of actress Melanie Griffith and step-daughter of Antonia Banderas, has landed the lead role. The movie premieres are definitely something family may want to steer well clear of as Johnson will, mostly likely, be finding herself in a number of compromising positions.

Ana's Friends

Kate Kavanagh, Ana's roommate and fellow university student, is a constant source of advice to her friend. She engages in a romantic relationship with Grey's brother Elliott but finds it difficult to accept the controlling nature of Grey, Ana's first boyfriend. Eloise Mumford, best known for her appearance in The River, plays Kate.

José Rodriguez (Victor Rasuk), a photographer and Ana's co-worker at a hardware store, is one of her many admirers. He is concerned when Ana begins her relationship with Grey, not merely out of jealousy, but genuine concern.

Ana's Family ****

Carla May Wilks, played by Jennifer Ehle (Pride and Prejudice), is Ana's mother. She is carefree and slightly irresponsible, a quality her daughter finds irritating. She immediately takes to Christian owing to his charm and good looks.

Ray Steele is Ana's step-father but the man she considers to be her 'real' father as he raised her from a young age. An ex-solider, he is supportive of Ana and enjoys Grey's company when they finally meet. Callum Keith Rennie (Californication) plays Ray.

Robin Adams, played by Dylan Neal (Arrow), is Carla's husband and Ana's latest step-father.

Grey's Family

Grey, despite being financially independent, is from a high powered family. His mother, played by Marcia Gay Harden (The Newsroom), is Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, a world renowned doctor. Grey's three children are all adopted.

Elliot Grey, played by Luke Grimes, is Christian's older adoptive brother. He is involved in the Grey family business in an engineering and construction capacity. He becomes enamoured with Ana's friend Kate. Grimes is best known for appearing in Taken 2.

Singer Rita Ora is, arguably, the most famous name on the cast list. She plays Mia Grey, Christian and Elliot's younger sister.

Jason Taylor, Christian's bodyguard and head of security, is played by Max Martini. The actor is known for his roles in action films such as Pacific Rim and Captain Phillips.
