The 'Avatar' Sequels: Everything You Need To Know

  • 21 March 2014

All has been fairly quiet on the Avatar sequels front lately, so we thought we’d do a bit of investigating to unearth what information is available to us. We're nosy like that.

Director James Cameron has admitted they are still in the early stages of production, “Right now we’re developing the software. I’m writing the scripts. We’re designing all the creatures and characters and the settings, an so on.” While he didn’t exactly blow us away with a ton of new details, he did give a little away about what we can expect from the coming movies, “I think it’s going to be spectacular. You’ll see new worlds, new habitats, new cultures.” Hopefully that means that we’ll get to travel a little more around Pandora, and see what else the world has to offer.

What we do know for certain is that the Avatar sequels won’t skimp on the special effects. Cameron revealed he plans to “go nuts” with 3D, and that he plans to shoot in 4K, perhaps also making use of the 48 fps high frame rate format used in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit. Avatar 2 is planned for release Christmas 2016, while Avatar 3 is aimed to be completed in 2017 and released 2018. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, who played Jake Sully and Neytiri respectively, will also be reprising their roles.

We wonder if there will be any mini Jake Sullys on the scene in the sequel movies? What do you predict will happen in the Avatar sequels?
