Matt Damon has revealed that not only would he be happy to reprise his career-defining role of Jason Bourne in the butt-kicking, Bond-esque blockbusters but that he and director Paul Greengrass would have already started beavering away on the sequel to 2007's Bourne Ultimatum if they'd found a suitable storyline.
Matt Damon Has Revealed He's Open To Starring In More 'Bourne' Movies.
Indeed, just when we thought one of the greatest action franchises of this millennium had been all neatly wrapped up nearly seven years ago, then BAM! - now we're hit with the realisation that there could be more to come from the amnesiac CIA assassin.
A fourth Bourne film, The Bourne Legacy, was released in 2012 starring Jeremy Renner but did not feature the character Jason Bourne or Damon. The original trilogy with Damon in the lead role took just over $1 billion at the box office and earned acclaim from action fans and critics alike.
The Actor Explained That The Right Script Hasn't Come Along.
"I've always been open to it if Paul Greengrass is the director and.we've just never been able to come up with a story," Damon was forced to explain yet again to CNBC. "It felt like such a good way to end it the last time, but having said that I love that character. and I'd love to see what happened to him."
"Because technically, the movie that came out in 2007 dovetailed with the one that came out in 2004, so technically the last time Jason Bourne was seen was 2004," Damon reasoned, adding "So, if any of your viewers have a story, please call Universal and submit it."

Damon made his names in films such as Good Will Hunting but took the role that has defined his career as an actor when he signed up to play Jason Bourne. "I just took all that paranoia and channelled it into...six months of just training and boxing and fire arms training," Damon explained. "I had just as many concerns as anybody about doing an action move. In fact, I never signed up for three Bourne movies, I signed up for one, because I didn't even know if I'd like to make an action movie...but it turned out that I loved it," the actor added.
We Could See Paul Greengrass & Matt Damon Reunite For Another 'Bourne' Movie.
Bourne series producer Frank Marshall has said that it's his dream to one day make a Bourne movie with both Damon and Renner starring, and this is a dream we could one day see realised considering the considerable fan interest in the franchise being extended.
Renner's fifth Bourne is set to bow in 2015 with Fast & Furious' Justin Ling directing and Sherlock Holmes writer Anthony Peckham screenwriting. But could we see Damon and Greengrass reunite for a possible sixth movie? We'll just have to wait and see.
