Tom Hiddleston Swerves 'Ben-Hur' For King Kong Epic 'Skull Island'
On the same day that Jack Huston was confirmed for Paramount's 'Ben-Hur', Tom Hiddleston - the man apparently sought for that role - has been confirmed for Legendary's 'Skull Island'. The movie will explore the origins of King Kong.
Previous King King movies have briefly explored the island before the ape hit New York City, though Skull Island will "take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions." As HitFix notes, the "parallels" could imply that we'll see a battle between Kong and Godzilla, who is also the property of Legendary Pictures. This is strengthened by the fact that Max Borenstein, who co-wrote Godzilla, is penning Skull Island.

Interestingly, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the quirky director behind indie-flick The Kings of Summer, will helm the movie. Previously he directed the short movie Successful Alcoholics, with T.J Miller and Lizzy Caplan.
Hiddleston continues to make the foray into leading man territory and will play country legend Hank Williams in I Saw the Light. The actor recently turned out at Michigan's Wheatland Music Festival, performing one of Williams' hits 'Move It On Over'. Williams died aged 29 from heart failure after battling alcoholism, prescription drug abuse and back problems.
Skull Island is pencilled in for 4 November, 2016. The only competition so far is the animated movie Trolls, with Jason Schwartzman and Chloe Grace Moretz, though the studios are likely to be readying their blockbusters for a similar time.
