So What Is Benedict Cumberbatch’s New Top Secret BBC Project?

Benedict Cumberbatch is filming something new for the BBC and that’s all we can tell you. The channel has teased a new Cumberbatch project on its Facebook page by sharing two images of the actor’s head, along with the caption “Benedict Cumberbatch filming something special for BBC One and BBC Two. More details soon…"

Of course the announcement has sent Cumberbatch fans wild wondering what the new project could be, leading to a number of possible theories. Another Sherlock? Perhaps a Doctor Who crossover? Or maybe it’s all to do with the upcoming Children in Need fundraising night.

But just so you can cross two possibilities off your list, the BBC has confirmed that the images were not scenes from ‘Doctor Who’, or his upcoming Shakespeare adaptation 'The Hollow Crown' in which Cumberbatch plays Richard III.

A source did however say that the project is "something special for BBC drama" and that Cumberbatch's new role, however small it might be, will air on both BBC1 and BBC2.

Ben Stephenson. the BBC's controller of drama commissioning also got involved but didn't give much away either as he simply said, “he was great. Stay tuned.”

In other Cumberbatch news, this week the actor has been making headlines thanks to his role in The Intimidation Game and a recent interview in Out magazine.

The actor plays a gay mathematician who is eventually imprisoned for his sexuality in the movie and told the publication that he would fight anti-gay religious extremists "to the death." The 38 year old also stated he still believed being gay in Hollywood was "a huge obstacle" for actors to overcome.
