Girls Trip Review
Very Good
This movie's premise basically sounds like The Hangover with added black girl power. But it's actually a lot more than that, with themes and ideas that emerge across the board. Although what audiences will remember are the more raucous comedic moments, which gleefully dive headlong into full-on vulgarity to keep the audience laughing all the way through to the big finale. And this will also be forever remembered as the movie that made The Carmichael Show's Tiffany Haddish a star.
She plays Dina, the sassy, hard-partying member of the Flossy Posse, a group of four friends from university 25 years ago. The others are superstar self-help guru Ryan (Regina Hall), notorious gossip blogger Sasha (Queen Latifah) and workaholic single mother Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith). Worrying that their friendship is fading away with time, Ryan proposes a reunion to travel to EssenceFest in New Orleans, where she's giving the keynote speech. So off they go to let their hair down and escape their responsible lives. But Sasha has just received a paparazzi photo of Ryan's football-star husband Stewart (Mike Colter) snuggling up with an Instagram model, and Dina immediately wants revenge. On the other hand, Ryan is concerned about maintaining her public image.
There are two big themes here that fit in rather nicely with the crazed antics that pepper the movie with rude flashes of riotous hilarity. First of course is the importance of sometimes setting your chores aside and just having fun with your friends. But the deeper message is about the importance of living honestly instead of just pretending that everything is great. Ryan, Sasha and Lisa have to face these issues and deal deeply with how they live their lives. Meanwhile, Dina just keeps partying. But then, she's the film's relentless scene-stealer, and the audience wouldn't have it any other way.

By Stephanie Chase in Movies / TV / Theatre on 01 November 2014
The axe has fallen on two more of the fall season’s freshman shows.
NBC are saying thanks but no thanks to two of their freshman comedies, ‘Bad Judge’ and ‘A to Z’. The cancellations are the network’s first of the season, after ABC led the way last week, axing romantic comedy 'Manhattan Love Story'.
According to Deadline, both comedies had been pulling in low ratings, with 'Bad Judge' earning a 0.9 while 'A to Z' took a less than impressive 0.7 in the 18-49 demographic.

Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Finale To Feature Shocking Natural Disaster
By Michael West in Movies / TV / Theatre on 24 April 2013
Could there be deaths in the season nine finale of Grey's Anatomy?
The Grey's Anatomy hospital Grey Sloan will be hit by a crippling natural disaster in the season nine finale, according to sources close to the ABC medical drama. After several cryptic tweets from showrunner Shonda Rhimes, insiders tell the Hollywood Reporter that a 'superstorm' will rip through the institution on May 16, 2013.
The natural disaster will actually begin in the penultimate episode of the season - titled 'Readiness Is All' set for May 9 - though will hit full force on the May 16 episode, titled 'Perfect Storm.' The storm will affect the recently renamed hospital and causes the entire staff to go into crisis mode in an episode being described as "very intense" with lots of "major thing changing for the characters in the final two episodes."
Rhimes has previously said the Grey's writing staff made some "very bold [and] shocking decisions" with the final, following "very intense discussions." It had led many fans of the show to suggest some characters could be killed off, though Rhimes only offered, "I warned you about the GA finale so you could brace yourself.Hug a friend."

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Review
By Rich Cline
Excellent
Spikier than the average coming-of-age movie, this astute comedy-drama is packed with memorable characters and resonant situations. It's also strikingly intelligent, refusing to accept Hollywood's fake moralising as it grapples with big issues from mental health to bullying. And even better, it's funny and sexy.
Set in the early 1990s, it's the story of the painfully shy Charlie (Lerman), who plans to blend into the background as he starts high school. Scarred by an emotional event in his past, the only new friend he makes is his English teacher (Rudd). Then his sharp wit is spotted by the colourful Patrick (Miller), an anarchic gay teen who doesn't care what people think. Patrick also has a sexy stepsister, Sam (Watson), who takes a liking to Charlie as well, and soon they become inseparable friends. Well, until Charlie loses his nerve to ask Sam out and ends up in a relationship with her friend Mary Elizabeth (Whitman) instead.
After some less-than-thrilling lead roles (such as Percy Jackson or last year's Three Musketeers remake), Lerman finally comes into his own here with a sensitive, intelligent performance that's nicely underplayed. He also has terrific chemistry with Watson and Miller, whose feisty, hilarious love of life fills every scene they're in. They make such a strong trio that we are deeply moved by each rocky shift in their friendship. And Whitman brings a sparky energy to her scenes as the Buddhist punk with a bracingly honest approach to whatever happens.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Trailer
Charlie is a 15-year-old high school freshman with no friends since his best friend Michael committed suicide. He is determined to turn his average life around and become someone people notice. He succeeds, at least, in making friends with two seniors; Sam and her extremely effeminate stepbrother Patrick; who let him into their lives and try to show him a good time. He also warms to his English teacher, Bill, who regularly lends him literary texts to read and absorb. Soon, his relationship with Sam gets stronger and Charlie begins to develop feelings for her that he's never before experienced. His new found friends stand by him through high school as he comes to terms with the death of his friend, his mental illness and with who he is as a person.
