The New York premiere of 'Selma' took place at the Ziegfeld Theatre. The red carpet in New York was graced by the likes of Aretha Franklin, and American actor, director and screen/playwright, Tyler Perry.

The premier also saw an appearance of actress Celia Weston, actor Trai Byers, American television actor Wendell Pierce, and theatre actor Corey Reynolds. Furthermore, actor Dylan Baker made an appearance, as did actor and playwright Ruben Santiago-Hudson and actor, writer and director Kent Faulcon. Finally, Grace Gealey, an actress in the upcoming 'Empire' pilot, attended, as did Lisa Price, the founder of Carol's Daughter beauty products.
