Elbow Singer Guy Garvey To Curate 2016 Meltdown Festival
Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has been announced as the curator of next year’s Meltdown festival. Garvey follows on from this year’s curator, Talking Head’s David Byrne, while past hosts have included Patti Smith, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Ray Davies and Morrissey.
The festival, which happens annually at London’s Southbank Center, will be held next year from June 10th to 19th. The singer is no stranger to the event, having performed in 2008 when it was curated by Massive Attack.

The 41 year old frontman said, ”I see this as the perfect opportunity to shine a light on some amazing new talent whilst recognising and celebrating the artists that have had an influence on the new sounds of today.”
“Beyond that I want my Meltdown to be a party where everyone feels invited and everyone leaves having had the best night out.” Garvey has recently ventured out as a solo artist and will release his debut album later this year. His last work with Elbow was 2014’s The Take Off and Landing of Everything.

“Guy is an exciting choice – his contagious energy and creative spark has inspired an avid following, not to mention critical acclaim – and is the perfect figure to continue the Meltdown legacy,” Kelly added. The singer also currently hosts his own BBC 6 Music show, where he showcases new artists alongside established acts.
