MSNBC host Martin Bashir has announced his resignation after comments he made towards Republican politician Sarah Palin suggesting she should be forced to eat faeces or be urinated upon.

The former Alaska governor has accepted the axed MSNBC reporter's apology following his resignation from the network
Martin Bashir stepped down from his post on MSNBC this week after making a disparaging comment against former Alaska governor and one-time vice president hopeful Sarah Palin during a broadcast last month. During an appearance on Fox News' Fox & Friends show on Thursday, 5 December, Palin addressed the comments for the first time and said that she is ready to "move on" following the incident.
Bashir was critical of Palin's competence as a politician
"My role was to accept his apology and be humble enough to accept it and move on," Palin said in the broadcast (via USA Today). A regular contributor for Fox News, Palin is a frequent critic of the news coverage found in what she calls the "lamestream media," and said during yesterday's broadcast that it was "refreshing to see though that many in the media did come out and say, 'Look, our standards have got to be higher than this.'"

Martin Bashir, the MSNBC television news host, has resigned after his controversial remarks about former US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin aired on news opinion show Clear The Air. The British-born host commented on Palin's Iowa Faith & Freedom Demolition speech during which she likened the burden of the U.S. debt to China to slavery.

Bashir didn't mince his words not only branding the former governor of Alaska "America's resident dunce" and "a world class idiot," but also suggested that she should be forced to eat faeces or be urinated upon. The comments stemmed from a segment of Bashir's reportage that looked at the brutal punishments slaves were subjected to, as detailed by estate overseer Thomas Thistlewood, who kept a detailed diary of 18th century slavery.

We're pretty sure Bashir will land on his feet.
In possibly the most predictable story of all time, Martin Bashir has resigned from MSNBC over comments he made about Sarah Palin. The only other way this could have gone was a sacking, but something tells us this resignation wasn’t all one way.
"Martin is a good man and respected colleague - we wish him only the best," MSNBC president Phil Griffin wrote in a statement, announcing the decision for Bashir to down tools. Mr Bashir apparently offered his resignation after a meeting with Mr Griffin and upon "further reflection" of his remarks."
