Love Spreads: The Stone Roses Announce UK Tour, Fuel Glastonbury Speculation

By Michael West in Music / Festivals on 30 October 2012

Stone Roses Primal Scream Jake Bugg The View

The Stone Roses have announced three UK shows for 2013, including two major concerts at London's Finsbury Park on June 7 and 8. Another gig will take place at Glasgow Green on June 15.

Tickets for all three shows go on sale at 9.30am on Friday 2, November and follow the Roses' three-day Heaton Park reunion this summer. According to the Independent, the extravaganza generated around £23 million for the Manchester economy. The UK shows will follow a string of shows in Australia in the spring, including an appearance at the Future music festival. The announcement of UK shows now makes it almost certain The Stone Roses will headline the Glastonbury Festival, which runs from June 28 - 30. Radiohead, The Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac have also been rumoured to headline the festival, though the latter's huge ticket prices for their London shows in November has made it less of a possibility.

Support for The Stone Roses Glasgow shows will come from Primal Scream, Jake Bugg and The View. Support for the London shows is yet to be announced.

Ann Romney Discusses Abortion On 'The View'

By Lorna Greville in Lifestyle / Showbiz on 18 October 2012

Michelle Obama The View

The wife of republican candidate Mitt Romney - the man who is threatening Obama for a second term - has been on The View to discuss some hot topics including abortion.

"The good news is, I'm not running for office and I don't have to say what I feel. But I am pro life. I'm happy to say that," the candidate's wife said when asked whether she, like her husband, had changed her stance on abortion. "He could not have, on his conscience, creating human life for experimentation," Romney said. "That's when he came out saying he was pro life. I think we all have to understand this is an issue that is so tender and there are people on both sides of the issue, with very good conscience, coming with a different opinion." Mrs. Romney denied that this was as big an issue for women as the economy is, and when asked if the two bared any correlation, she once again diverted the attention to her husband. "You know, again, I would love it if you'd get my husband on the couch, Joy, and you could go down with that all you want," she said.

Romney, like Michelle Obama, is doing the press push which is oh so mandatory for a would-be presidents wife. Someone should make a really long TV series about it. Oh, wait.

The View - Cheeky For A Reason Album Review

By Andrew Lockwood in Music Reviews on 01 October 2012

In 2007 Scottish Indie darlings The View released 'Hats Off To The Buskers'. They released 5 singles from it, it went to #1 and it earned them a Mercury Music Prize nomination. Since then the band have released two further albums, 'Witch Bitch' and 'Bread and Circuses'. Both were commercially successful releases and, whilst they may not have been as well received critically, they were to the liking of most of their fans. All were released on the 1965 record label.

Skip forward five years from their meteoric introduction and halcyon honeymoon and the band have switched labels, stewed over the new album's release and seemingly lost nearly all of their original charm and appeal. The album 'Cheeky For A Reason' sees a very different View from that which broke onto the music scene four albums ago. This View is all about anthemic, characterless sing-a-longs full of vacuous tedium with little, if any, redeeming features.

Single release 'How Long' kicks off the cliche ridden portfolio of Scotch Rock. Were The Bay City Rollers, Big Country, Biffy Clyro and The Proclaimers ever to collaborate and write an album together, it would probably sound exactly like this. Whilst that may fill a few of you with deep joy at such a prospect, hearing the actual result is an unpleasant, nauseous experience. If you're 13 and have been raised on the Outer Hebrides by tyrannical and strictly religious parents and the only music available to you is the mating call of the Subalpine Warbler then this album by The View will come as a revelation to you, otherwise avoid it at all costs.(Actually, avoid it if it's free).

The View, Bread and Circuses Album Review

By Andy Peterson in Music Reviews on 28 March 2011

There was something about that experience of first listening to The View's second album 'Which Bitch?' that will always live long in the memory. It wasn't that it was as hand gnawingly embarrassing as Robbie's Rat Pack farce Swing When Your Winning, or even as "What the hell?" as the Arctic Monkeys' fan-offloading Humbug, but the impression that the Dundonian's sophomore effort left behind was most definitely one not to be forgotten in a hurry.
