Don Mclean's wife Patrisha McLean has finally filed for divorce from her folk-singing husband, almost two months after he was arrested by police for an alleged domestic assault at their home in Maine back in January for which a restraining order was issued out against him.
Patrisha McLean, a professional photographer, cited 'adultery, cruel and abusive treatment, and irreconcilable differences' as she filed documents to end her marriage of 30 years to the 'American Pie' singer yesterday (March 10th 2016). No further details have yet been announced, but it is presumed that the decision has been made in connection with the domestical violence that occured on January 17th 2016.
Pat dialled 911 following an incident where she accused her husband of terrorizing her for a period of 4 hours, whereby he repeatedly squeezed her head at the temples with his hands and even threatened to kill her. He was locked up in Knox County Jail and a judge granted Pat a restraining order against Don after she said in a statement: 'My husband has a violent temper. For the first 10 years or so, his rage was unfathomably deep and very scary.'
Don released his own statement on his website. 'What is occurring is the very painful breakdown of an almost 30 year relationship', he said. 'Our hearts are broken and we must carry on. There are no winners or losers but I am not a villain.'
Patrisha had also responded to the media coverage, claiming that 'He and I had many happy times in the 30 years of our marriage and what has recently transpired is unfortunate for all of us'. She also urged readerse to 'ignore the sensationalist, scabrous headlines and focus instead on the joy that Don, and his music, has given to so many for so long'.
