Rick Astley Scores First Number One Album In Nearly 30 Years
Rick Astley has scored his first UK number one album in 29 years with his latest release 50. The 50-year old, who is best known for his 1987 single 'Never Gonna Give You Up', managed to beat Tom Odell to the top spot on Friday, after a close race all week.
Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Astley said: "It's amazing, it's incredible, it's been a very, very, very long time since this happened before, I'm ecstatic, I couldn't be happier!" The singer added that he’s already received words of congratulations from his friend Elton John.
"Elton John's sent a few texts over the last couple of days and just called me now to celebrate and said, 'Just make sure you enjoy it,’” he said. "He's one of those people I've always respected, he has always, and still does, love music... it was a nice moment to get that congratulations.”

Astley also said that he plans to purchase Tom Odell’s album Wrong Crowd. "I like Tom Odell, I bought his last album, and I’m gonna buy this one as well, but I’ve held off from buying it this week! It’s amazing to be mentioned in the same breath as him."
Earlier this week Astley revealed that he had secretly wed his fiancée of 15 years recently.“I have been with the same woman for 27 years but we only got married recently,” he told The Sun. “It was very, very casual. We had been engaged for 15 years but we were both very busy. We just didn’t find a date in the diary.”
