Childhood: Matthew McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas, to Mary and James McConaughey. Matthew youngest of three brothers, and his father, James, ran an oil an oil pipe supply firm and owned a gas station, as well as having once played football for the Green Bay Packers.
McConaughey's parents divorced and remarried a number of times, with their sons raised as Baptists. McConaughey took part in a student exchange program while at school, and spent a year living in Gorokan, New South Wales, Australia.
Career: Matthew McConaughey's acting career started out in 1991, where he started out as a television commercial actor while also studying at the College of Communication at The University of Texas in Austin. In 1993, McConaughey was cast in the film 'Dazed and Confused', as well as making an appearance in in Trisha Yearwood's music video for her song 'Walkaway Joe' in the same year. Following these appearances, McConaughey was cast in roles for films like 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre:
The Next Generation', 'Boys on the Side' and 'Angels in the Outfield'. McConaughey's big break came in 1996, when he was cast in 'A Time to Kill' alongside Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. Following this role, McConaughey was given leading roles in 'Contact', 'Amistad' and 'EDtv'.
In 2000, McConaughey started appearing in romantic comedy movies like 'The Wedding Planner' and 'How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days'. He broke the mould by appearing as a serial killer in the film 'Frailty'. In 2008, McConaughey filled in for Owen Wilson following his suicide attempt in the Ben Stiller action comedy 'Tropic Thunder'.
Deciding that he had found himself in a typecast situation after starring in a variety of romantic and action comedies, McConaughey appeared in 'Magic Mike' in 2012, before making an Oscar-winning turn in the 2013 film 'Dallas Buyers Club'. After losing 38 pounds for the role, McConaughey won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in Drama and an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Matthew McConaughey starred alongside Woody Harrelson in HBO's 'True Detective', earning mass critical praise for his portrayal and a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, however this went to Bryan Cranston for the final series of 'Breaking Bad'. Actress Busy Philipps has just revealed details about her hilariously awkward first meeting with Matthew Mcconaughey. Apparently, he got her name very, very wrong and earned her a nickname that will stay with her for the rest of her life. But, obviously, he's totally forgiven.
He's not the first star to get someone's name wrong (John Travolta and Adele Dazeem, anyone?) and he definitely won't be the last, but that doesn't make it any less funny that the 47-year-old 'Dark Tower' star got Busy Philipps identity COMPLETELY wrong the very first time they met.

The full trailer for Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' has finally been unveiled, seeing Idris Elba, Matthew Mcconaughey and Tom Taylor in the lead roles. It's a dark blend of fantasy, sci-fi and traditional western, which is what makes it one of the most exciting films of the year.
Idris Elba plays the formidable Gunslinger in Nikolaj Arcel's adaptation of Stephen King's best-selling series of novels, with Matthew McConaughey as the evil Man in Black and Tom Taylor as the Gunslinger's unlikely 11-year-old quest partner Jake Chambers.

Very Good
Based on a true story, this lively and sometimes outrageous adventure is packed with twists and turns that the audience never sees coming. It's a complex series of events that sometimes gets a bit bogged down in the under-explained details, but the characters are fantastic. And at the centre, Matthew McConaughey shines in a role that requires him to completely change the way he looks.
It's set in the late 1980s, as the fast-talking salesman Kenny (McConaughey) is trying to raise funding in Reno for a project he has been dreaming about for decades: prospecting for gold in Indonesia. He is sure there's a fortune in those mountains, but everyone else is dubious. And even as he's on the verge of losing everything, his wife Kay (Bryce Dallas Howard) quietly stands by him. In desperation, he gets on a plane to Jakarta, pitching his idea to local adventurer Michael (Edgar Ramirez), who escorts him into an area populated by head-hunters. When the companies back in America hear that they've found gold, there's more money than Kenny and Michael can count. But the FBI suspects it's a scam.
McConaughey is magnetic as the balding, overweight Kenny, a guy who simply won't take no for an answer. He is convinced that there's gold in the rainforest, even though no one has ever seen any, and his optimism is infectious to both the other characters and the movie's audience. This makes all the men in suits opposite Kenny look rather dull by comparison. Howard gives her role a powerful kick of emotion, although Kay is sidelined by the plot. And Ramirez gets some terrific scenes as the Indiana Jones-style explorer. All of these people seem to be caught up in a flood of events they have no control over, and the film races along without pausing for breath.

It wasn't easy to go back to eating like a healthy person.
After winning an Oscar playing a real-life person in Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew Mcconaughey once again made a dramatic physical transformation to play an actual prospector in Gold. Although this time the role required him to gain instead of lose a lot of weight.
McConaughey believes that you have to take into consideration both the facts and the rumours when you play a real-life person on-screen. In Gold, his character is Kenny Wells, based on the Canadian businessman David Walsh. "The facts don't really tell the story," McConaughey says. "Sometimes there's more truth in an impression of a character than there is in the actual close-up and understanding of a character. So I looked at my own life, at the David Walshes that I knew growing up."

Kubo And The Two Strings Trailer
Kubo is a young boy who lives with his mother. Kubo has always been influences by his vivid imagination and he's able to use magic spells to bring his stories to life to entertain the local towns folk. One night the winds change and Kubo finds himself being haunted by surrounding and characters that he's seen before - monsters, witches and devil like creatures from his stories.
With little other option, Kubo's mother casts a spell on Kubo and sends him on a mission to find his father's armour. She doesn't leave her son alone though, she also brings a protector to life whose sole purpose is to protect the little boy. The only thing is Kubo's protector doesn't look human, she's a monkey who won't take any nonsense from the young boy.
As they journey together, Kubo and Monkey meet another companion called Beetle. Monkey is reluctant to take in the new cohort but the boy is taken in by Beetles tales and knowledge of his father. Armed with his magical shamisen (a musical instrument) Kubo must battle demons and ancient gods to resolve the mystery of his father's life and death.

The Oscar winner's new suicide drama is dividing opinion with its first screenings at Cannes.
Matthew Mcconaughey has completely reinvented himself since his shirt-on, shirt-off rom-com days, going on to star in darker and better-received dramas like Killer Joe, the acclaimed TV series True Detective, Christopher Nolan's space epic Interstellar and, of course, Dallas Buyers Club, for which he won his first Oscar. It looked like the man could do no wrong.
And then came the boos and laughter at the recent Cannes press screening of The Sea Of Trees, a spiritual drama in which he plays a suicidal man who has a life-changing encounter with a stranger in Japan's Aokigahara woods. As an A-list actor who's become much more used to praise in the last four years, McConaughey responded (we have to say, rather well) to the audience's negative reactions, saying, "Anyone has as much right to boo as they do to ovate".
