The American R&B singer’s representatives released a statement to media outlets on Tuesday morning (October 4th), said that Braxton had been confined to a hospital bed for a number of days last week after her condition temporarily got worse.

Singer and reality star Tamar Braxton announces that she's pregnant

Tamar Braxton, the reality TV star and sister of R&B singer Toni Braxton, is expecting her first child, USA Today have reported.

Tamar unveiled the news on Good Morning America, letting the nation know that she and her husband Vince Herbert (that’s Lady Gaga’s manager, you know) are expecting their first child. Tamar, who rose to fame, along with her sisters in the pop group The Braxtons, then found her fame rejuvenated in the reality show Braxton Family Values.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Tamar said “I have a love on top! I am pregnant! I feel great and greedy at the same time. This is the most I've eaten ever.” Tamar and Vince also star in their own reality spin-off show Tamar and Vince. A bit like the Kardashians, really. Except fewer people watch it. The couple have been together since 2003 and married in 2008.

Toni Braxton Retiring From Music To Play Lesbian On Screen

By Michael West in Music / Festivals on 12 February 2013

Toni Braxton

Toni Braxton retiring from music is something that has been anticipated by the R&B singer's fans for many years now. The singer - who has sold over 60 million records worldwide - announced her exit from the music business on Tuesday (February 12, 2013), signalling her intention to pursue her burgeoning career in film and television. "For what I do I have to love it. I have to feel that excitement and it's gone," the 45-year-old told The Grio. "I'm just not going to do any albums anymore; maybe touring occasionally here and there because I love performing, but not as much as I did in the past. But no new projects."

Braxton, a six time Grammys winner, has struggled with personal woes in recent years, filing for bankruptcy in 2007 and facing foreclosure on her mansion. She ended up in hospital last year with complications linked to the autoimmune disease lupus. She now appears to be heading in the direction of Hollywood following two stints on Broadway, in Disney's Beauty and the Beast and playing the titular queen in Aida. Braxton also appeared on the seventh season of Dancing with the Stars and headlined her own reality series Braxton Family Values.

Now, she's set to build on her 2002 turn in action movie Kingdom Come and is turning attention to movies. She recently landed her first lead role as a small-town gospel singer and single mom, in Lifetime's Twist of Faith, which premiered on Saturday (February 9, 2013), though has a very specific ambition for her next role. "I would like to play a lesbian," she admitted, "I don't know why. And do a whole make-out scene and the whole thing; just something completely different than people would expect from me. Not a lipstick lesbian, either."

Lupus Flare Up Lands Toni Braxton In Hospital

By Staff Writer in Music / Festivals on 10 December 2012

Toni Braxton was hospitalized in Los Angeles on Friday.

The singer broke the news over Twitter, sounding remarkably casual about the ordeal. "Hey guys, I'm in the hospital for health issues related to Lupus & Blood clots, I will be home soon...", Braxton wrote. The singer announced two years ago that she has been diagnosed with the condition and has been experiencing occasional flare-ups like the one that landed her in the hospital last January. Braxton has talked to TMZ, stating that “she wanted to clear the record before rumors started.”

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a dangerous autoimmune condition, in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells. It is most common with middle-aged women, which is precisely Braxton’s age group. This is just the last in a series of health problems the singer has had in the last few years. In 2008, she had to cancel a series of concerts in Las Vegas after receiving treatment for pericarditis, a viral inflammation of the heart and last year she had a benign tumour removed from her breast.

Toni Braxton Accused Of Fraud, Claimed She Was $50m In Debt

By Lorna Greville in Lifestyle / Showbiz on 30 October 2012

Toni Braxton

In 2010 singer and actress Toni Braxton filed for bankruptcy, reportedly owing somewhere between $10m-50m, reports the Daily Mail. Although the first thought the comes to mind is- HOW does someone let that kind of money slip out of their grasp and under the radar? That's quickly shadowed by the latest revelatory allegation that she has committed fraud.

According to trustee of her bankruptcy estate, she illegally wired over $53,000 to her ex husband Keri Lewis. According to TMZ this was due to not wanting to pay the repayments that were due to bank creditors. Responding to the allegations, Braxton's reps said "All of the payments made to Lewis prior to Toni's bankruptcy filing were appropriate transfers for reasonable and necessary personal and business expenses in the ordinary course of her business."

After going bankrupt originally in 2008 she said "Most artists go bankrupt at some stage because you don't get your percentage [of the profits] till you pay back all the money the company has invested in you - and everyone coming into the business gets lousy deals at first." However, as the Daily Mail says, in a first-time ruling she won her case with the Congress who ruled that her music contract was still valid despite her bankruptcy and consequently continued recording and subsequently went on to make profit the following year. Fingers crossed we'll see a repeat of history for Braxton's sake.
