Jack Nicholson (born John Joseph Nicholson, 22.4.1937) Jack Nicholson is a highly revered American actor, well known for his work in the 1970s, in films such as One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and The Shining.
Childhood: Jack Nicholson was born in Manhattan, New York City and raised in New Jersey by his grandparents, who he believed were actually his parents. His mother, June Frances
Nicholson, was a showgirl known as June Nilson. June had married Jack's father, Donald Furcillo six months before his birth, in Elkton, a town renowned for 'quickie' marriages. It later transpired, however, that Furcillo was already married. Although Furcillo offered to care for the child, Jack's grandmother, Ethel insisted on raising the child. It has been suggested in Jack's Life, a biography by Patrick McGilligan, that Donald Furcillo may not actually have been Jack's true father and that June was, in fact, unsure of the child's paternity. Nicholson was made aware that the couple who raised him were in fact his grandparents in 1974, by a journalist for Time magazine.
In 1954, Jack Nicholson was voted 'class clown' at Manasquan High School.
Acting Career: Jack Nicholson initially worked for the animation duo Hanna-Barbera. He was offered work as an animation artist, but declined and instead pursued his desire to act.
Jack Nicholson's movie debut came with a role in the low-budget teen drama The Cry Baby Killer. The film's director, Roger Corman went on to direct Nicholson in a number of films, including The Little Shop of Horrors, The Raven, The Terror and The St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Corman also directed The Trip, which starred Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, and was Nicholson's first successful attempt at screenwriting. This led to Nicholson's role in Easy Rider, which also starred Fonda and Hopper. Nicholson's role as George Hanson earned him his first Oscar nomination.
In 1970, Nicholson landed another Oscar nomination for his role in Five Easy Pieces. That same year, he appeared in On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, although a great deal of his appearance was cut out before the film premiered.
Nicholson continued the 1970s with a string of successful film appearances, including Chinatown, by Roman Polanski, The Passenger by Michelangelo Antonioni and The Who's rock opera, Tommy. In 1975, Jack Nicholson won the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance as Randle P. Murphy in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, an adaptation of the novel by Ken Kesey.
At the start of the 1980s, Jack Nicholson starred in The Shining, Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of the Stephen King novel by the same name. It remains one of Nicholson's most iconic performances.
Jack Nicholson went on to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in 1983's Terms of Endearment. He followed this film with a string of sturdy performances in films such as The Postman Always Rings Twice and The Witches of Eastwick. Three more Academy Award nominations were to come in the 1980s, for his roles in Reds, Prizzi's Honor and Ironweed.
In 1989, Jack Nicholson played The Joker in Tim Burton's Batman. Nicholson himself reportedly earned around $60 million for his part in the film.
The 1990s saw Nicholson playing Col. Nathan R. Jessep in A Few Good Men, alongside Tom Cruise and he earned himself one more Oscar nomination. His next nomination came in 1997 with his role opposite Helen Hunt in As Good As It Gets.
At the turn of the century, Nicholson appeared in About Schmidt, along with Kathy Bates and Hope Davis. He gained another Best Actor nomination for his performance. In 2003, he starred with Adam Sandler in the comedy Anger Management, as well as his role in Something's Gotta Give, opposite Diane Keaton.
In 2006, Jack Nicholson was one of a reputable cast to feature in Martin Scorcese's The Departed. Amongst the cast members were Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. The following year, The Bucket List was released, in which Jack Nicholson co-starred with Morgan Freeman.
Personal Life: Jack Nicholson has fathered six children to five separate women and has been romantically linked in the press to public figures such as Lara Flynn Boyle, Anjelica Houston and Bebe Buell.

He’s romanced some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, but at 77 the legendary Jack Nicholson has said he fears dying alone and wants ‘one last romance’.
In a interview with Closer, the semi retired actor said, “I would love that one last romance but I'm not very realistic about it happening. What I can't deny is my yearning.”

Anjelica Huston's new book is likely to be one of the most interesting memoirs of the year.
The revered actress Anjelica Huston has detailed how she slashed her wrists in desperation after spending days arguing with her then lover, the photographer Bob Richardson.
In the first instalment of her two-part memoirs, The Addams Family star speaks of her troubled romance with the much older Richardson - the father of fashion photographer Terry Richardson.
Huston began dating the snapper when she was 18 and he was 42 and Richardson struggled with mental health issues and would spend days in deep depression. In the new book, Huston confesses that during one four-day depression, she cut her own wrists in a bid to gain attention.

In his latest novel, Stephen King has decided to return to one of his most famous titles to date, 'The Shining,' to revisit Danny Torrence childhood to adult life
Stephen King has a new book coming out, but with his latest release the literary champion has promised something a little extra as he revisits one of his most famous works: The Shining. His new book, Doctor Sleep, will pick up one year after the faithful events that took place in the Overlook Hotel, and follows central character Danny Torrence in the years leading up to and entering manhood.
Ahead of the release of his newest novel, King spoke with the BBC's Will Gompertz about why he chose to revisit the Torrence family, and why it took so long for him to return to the story (The Shining was first published in 1977). He also went on to explain how he found Jack Torrence, who is played by Jack Nicholson in Stanley Kubrick's timeless adaptation of the book, is one of his most auto-biographical characters, although admitted he does feel a connection with Danny.
"I was curious about what would happen to him, because he's a real child of a dysfunctional family," King said in the interview. "In some ways I think his father, Jack Torrence was the most autobiographical character i'd done, because at the time I wrote the book, I was drinking a lot... I saw him as this heroic character that was battling his demons on his own, the way that strong American men are supposed to."

Jack Nicholson will no longer be appearing on the big screen as the movie legend is set to retire from acting for good, a report from Radar Online has revealed. With more that half a century worth of work the triple Oscar winner has quietly retreated from the movie industry for good, due mostly to his failing memory and certain health concerns related to his old age.

Having shied away from any roles since 2010's How Do You Know, it has been revealed that his retreat from acting is down to his decision to call time on his profession and enjoy his retirement. A Hollywood insider told Radar, “Jack has — without fanfare — retired,” adding, "There is a simple reason behind his decision — it’s memory loss. Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him. His memory isn’t what it used to be.”

How 'Easy Rider' Karen Black Turned To The Public For Healthcare

Karen Black will be sadly missed in Hollywood.
Karen Black, the Illinois-born actress who appeared in more than 100 movies including the classic 1969 road movie Easy Rider, has died at a Los Angeles clinic aged 74 following a battle with cancer, reports BBC News.
Black, who almost always played troubled characters, earned an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe award for her hugely accomplished performance as a waitress who dates an upper class dropout (Jack Nicholson) in Five Easy Pieces. However, despite her impressive filmography, the actress was forced to turn to the public for help with treatment for her ampullary cancer.
An online funding appeal was set up by her husband Stephen Eckelberry in the hope of raising $60,000 for Karen to travel to Europe for treatment as part of a clinical study.

“I get booted!" she revealed on Conan. "These guys come and pull us out of courtside. I’m like, ‘What is going on?’ ... I’m like hiding out of this hallway, and all of a sudden Jack Nicholson comes out of the bathroom, and he’s like, 'Hee hee hee.'"
