To coincide with the release of his latest live album, Sam Smith has also shared a live video of him singing the Cyndi Lauper classic 'Time After Time'. Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios last year, as part of Sam Smith's live streamed event, 'Time After Time' is just one the twelve tracks to feature on his latest album, 'Love Goes: Live At Abbey Road Studios'.

The album, which also contains the standout tracks 'Too Good At Goodbyes' and 'Stay With Me', captures Sam in great voice accompanied by a very accomplished band in an iconic setting. Sam Smith said prior to the release of the record, "I’ve seen all your comments and messages about this, so I’m so excited to announce my live album 'Love Goes: Live At Abbey Road Studios', will be released on March 19th!!"

In conversation with Cyndi Lauper about recording such a well known, and much loved track Sam explained, "I have to say to you Cyndi that out of all the songs I've sung, in terms of covers, singing this one, the beauty of it being lockdown, when we got into the room to do this we had been in lockdown for about 4 months, it was a time for me and my band to sing together and play together, but that song, you know, was the song that i was so excited to perform every single day this year, and this song to me has always been this, it feels so melancholy, and it's always made me, I've been filled with longing every time i listen to it, but it made me so happy to sing, so happy to sing."

Cyndi Lauper was clearly a fan of Sam's version saying, "I heard your version and it's so, so beautiful." To be fair Sam Smith does do a pretty good job of covering such a huge 80's hit. His take on one of Cyndi Lauper's biggest chart successes is not given a radical make-over, rather it is given a sympathetic update. Sam's vocal lends itself to the tender nature of the soulful song so it's no great stretch to hear him deftly pull on the emotional storyline woven within the lyrics.
