Rod Wave - Tombstone Music Video

  • 26 March 2021

Rod Wave is out among the snow covered woods as he gets chilled out in the video for 'Tombstone'. Two days prior to the release of his latest album, 'SoulFly', Rod Wave premiered the video for this, one of the nineteen songs featured on his new record. Rod's latest album comes almost a year after he released the number one rap album 'Pray 4 Love', his second full length album, and only 16 months after his first album proper, 'Ghetto Gospel'.

Rod's output is made all the more impressive and incredible when you factor in that he was in a near fatal car crash in 2020, an event that gave rise to the song 'Through The Wire', featured on the deluxe edition of his 'Pray 4 Love' album. The Floridian rapper and singer-songwriter Rodarius Marcell Green, aka Rod Wave, is still only 22 so it would have been an absolute tragedy to have lost him before his talent had been given time to flourish.

Although Rod may have encountered a glimpse at super-stardom with his 2019 viral hit 'Heart On Ice' you sense that there is far more to come from this talented artist. Wave has such an understated ease with which he can amplify his expressive and soulful vocal, drawing you in with every word.

In the video, Rod sings whilst the snow comes down, as scenes of domestic abuse and Police shooting play out elsewhere. The calmness of the song's delivery belays the narrative born out in the lyrics and how the song is visualised on film. The gospel choir that help Rod deliver the finale to the song add an extra dimension and give more gravitas to the already harrowing scenes. It's a beautiful song carrying a tragic story line, but it works supremely well.
