CHVRCHES, Robert Smith - How Not To Drown (feat. Robert Smith) Music Video

  • 04 June 2021

The Cure's Robert Smith joins Scottish synth-pop purveyors CHVRCHES on their latest single, 'How Not To Drown'. CHVRCHES new track follows their first single of the year, 'He Said She Said' in April, and their six track EP release, 'In Search Of Darkness', released a month earlier in March. The collaborative single works well for both parties and has resulted in one of CHVRCHES best tracks to date.

CHVRCHES latest single, like 'He Said She Said', is drawn from the band's up coming ten track album, 'Screen Violence'. The new album will be CHVRCHES fourth and comes just over three years after their previous full length studio album, 'Love Is Dead'. As well as the new album on the horizon CHVRCHES have also announced a tour of North America starting on November 9th in Houston and ending on December 17th in Los Angeles.

'How Not To Drown' plays to both CHVRCHES and Smith's strengths with CHVRCHES providing a darker soundtrack than on some of their previous singles. There's less of an emphasis on the synths and more of an Indie-Pop bent to the latest single with both lead singer Lauren Mayberry and Robert Smith taking vocal duties. Smith's immediately recognisable, distinctive and iconic vocal provides a great foil to Mayberry's higher and lighter singing voice.

"It’s better if I make no sound, I will never escape these doubts, I wasn’t dead when they found me, Watch as they pull me down" Lauren sings before Smith takes the mic to counter with, "I’m writing a chapter on what to do after they dig you up, On what to do after you grew to hate what you used to love, That was the first time I knew, They were out for blood, And they would have your guts."

'Screen Violence', CHVRCHES new album, will be released on August 27th via Glassnote Records.
