Album Of The Week: OutKast Put Southern Rap On The Map With Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
By Holly Mosley in Music / Festivals on 26 April 2019
Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was released on this day (April 26) in 1994.
Yet another 25-year celebration comes in the form of Outkast's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik; the debut album from this Georgia hip hop duo which became the first record of the genre to be released on LaFace Records. It's still one of the most iconic records of the whole of the 90s.
André 3000 and Big Boi wrote and recorded this seminal album when they were still teenagers, addressing such topics as coming-of-age, Southern urban life, hedonism and gangsta culture.

Various Artists - BBC Radio 1's The Nixtape Album Review
By Alex Carson in Music Reviews on 20 October 2014
For our American readers, no, that's not a typo. 'The Nixtape' is a regular feature on BBC Radio 1's popular 'Breakfast Show'; a weekly segment every Friday morning where an hour of music, usually consisting of classics and barely-dated hits from the 90s and earlier 00s, are played. 'BBC Radio 1's the Nixtape' is split into two discs, each with a different style. The first is a rap/hip-hop compilation, with the second being more of a club/techno/house mix. While it's all the same 'Nixtape', the styles are divergent enough to demand a separate look at each.
The 'Nixtape''s electronic second half isn't bad, though it's something that's going to appeal more to die-hard fans than casual listeners. There aren't quite the same identifiable groups of music within disc 2, though there are equally a few stand-out acts scattered throughout. The soothing 'Rather Be' by Clean Bandit, the ivory-tingling 'I Wanna Feel' by second SecondCity, and an infusion of pop in 'Take Care' by Rihanna and Drake prompt all but the most lethargic listener to get on their feet and move. Where the first half of the 'Nixtape' had variety, the second half runs together completely. Perhaps this is an appealing factor for fans of club music, and maybe this would make the second half of the 'Nixtape' perfect for your next dance party, but it can be difficult to stay interested in an album when the songs begin to run together so cleanly.

Coachella 2014: Was It The Best Year Yet?
By Michael West in Movies / TV / Theatre on 14 April 2014
Coachella 2014 was littered with standout performances - but was ultimately marred by high profile disappointments.
The Coachella Festival has closed its doors for another year, leaving a bunch of sweating Californian hipsters and A-list celebrities to pack up and dream of 2015. Many had described the 2014 line-up as one of the most interesting and diverse shows yet - but did it manage to live up to the hype?
Overall, over 130 artists have now been confirmed with Arctic Monkeys playing just before Eninem, giving the British rockers their most prominent US festival slot to date. Lorde will play underneath with Above & Beyond, Interpol, Chvrches, AFI, The Kooks, Rudimental, Iggy Azalea, Bombay Bicycle Club and Warpaint all appearing on August 1st. The next day Calvin Harris supports Outkast with Nas, Chase & Status, Kate Nash and Foster the People also on the bill. The final day sees the Avett Brothers, Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, The 1975 and White Denim all appearing on the line up with Skrillex and Kings of Leon.
