Pierce Brosnan (born May 16th 1953) Pierce Brosnan is an Irish actor famous for his role as James Bond in four films between 1995 and 2002.
Childhood: Pierce Brosnan was born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland but he grew up in Navan, County Meath. His parents are May, a nurse, and Thomas Brosnan, a carpenter. His father left the family when he was young and he was looked after by his grandparents Philip and Kathleen Smith while his mother moved to London to work. He then lived with his aunt and then an uncle before moving to a boarding house. His mother visited him only once or twice a year.
He was raised Roman Catholic and attended a De La Salle Brothers Christian school while serving as an altar boy. He lived with his mother and her new husband William Carmichael in East Lothian, Scotland when he was 11 and Carmichael took him to see his first Bond film, ‘Goldfinger’. He attended Elliott School in London which was a state comprehensive school. He left school at 16 and became a painter while training at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design. He learnt how to fire eat and was hired by a circus agent for three years. He then trained in acting at the Drama Centre London.
Acting career: Pierce Brosnan began his career in theatre, making his debut in ‘Wait Until Dark’ at the York Theatre Royal. He later appeared in ‘The Red Devil Battery Sign’ and 1977’s ‘Filumena’ by Eduardo De Filippo. He had small roles in the movies ‘The Long Good Friday’ and ‘The Mirror Crack'd’ in 1980 and TV shows ‘The Professionals’ and ‘Play for Today’. He landed his first leading role in the miniseries ‘Manions of America’ in 1981 and landed a Golden Globe nomination in 1985 for his appearance in the ‘Masterpiece Theatre’ documentary. He moved to California in 1982 and played the leading role in detective series ‘Remington Steele’. He then appeared in several films including ‘The Fourth Protocol’ in 1987 with Michael Caine, ‘The Deceivers’ and ‘Noble House’ in 1988, 1992’s ‘The Lawnmower Man’ alongside Jeff Fahey and 1993’s ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ with Robin Williams.
He was announced as the fifth James Bond, taking over from Timothy Dalton, in 1994. His first film was ‘Goldeneye’ in 1995 which grossed $350 million worldwide. 1997's ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ and 1999's ‘The World Is Not Enough’ also became huge box office hits, though 2002’s ‘Die Another Day’ received mixed reviews. In 2004, he quit the role and was subsequently replaced by Daniel Craig. In between Bond films, Brosnan appeared in Tim Burton's ‘Mars Attacks!’, 1997’s ‘Robinson Crusoe’ and 1999’s ‘Grey Owl’. In 2004, he appeared in ‘Laws of Attraction’ opposite Julianne Moore and ‘After the Sunset’ with Salma Hayek and Woody Harrelson. In 2005, he was nominated for another Golden Globe for his appearance in ‘The Matador’.
He appeared alongside Liam Neeson two years later in ‘Seraphim Falls’ as well as ‘Butterfly on a Wheel’ with Gerard Butler. In 2008, he appeared with Meryl Streep in the ABBA musical movie ‘Mamma Mia!’ for which he was nominated a National Movie Award. In 2009, he starred in the Leonard Wise novel adaptation ‘The Big Biazarro’ and the well-received ‘The Ghost Writer’. Pierce Brosnan: Other career ventures Pierce Brosnan set up a film production company in 1996 called Irish DreamTime with their first project being box office success ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’. He is an Ambassador for UNICEF Ireland and has previously worked with Greenpeace against nuclear disarmament, even boycotting his 'GoldenEye' premiere in France in protest of the country's nuclear testing. He raises money for charities regularly by selling his own paintings.
Personal life: Pierce Brosnan lives with his family in Malibu, California. He married Australian actress Cassandra Harris in 1980 and had a son called Sean. He later adopted her children from a previous relationship after their father passed away. Harris died in 1987 after falling ill with ovarian cancer.
He met his father for the first time in many years when an episode of 'Remington Steele' was filmed in Ireland. In 2001, he married journalist Keely Shaye Smith in Ireland and had two sons: Dylan Thomas and Paris Beckett. In 2003, he was awarded an honorary OBE though he is ineligible to receive the full honour due to the fact that he is of Irish citizenship. In 2004, he gained US citizenship and retained Irish citizenship.

Brosnan, who played 007 four times from 1995-2002, believes the franchise has become too dark under Daniel Craig's stewardship.
Pierce Brosnan feels that the James Bond films have become too dark in tone and have lost their sense of humour in the Daniel Craig era, and blames the rise of the Bourne series.
65 year old Brosnan, who starred in four of the franchise’s films, last played 007 in 2002’s Die Another Day. Since then, Daniel Craig has overseen a revival in the series’ credibility and commercial fortunes, but his predecessor told The Rake that he had concerns about the direction the Bond films had taken.
“I knew there had been a seismic shift, and little did I know I was going to be part of that in the curtain falling on my contract,” Brosnan explained, adding that it was down to the rise in more serious spy films like The Bourne Identity, which was released the same year as his final James Bond movie.

Pierce Brosnan Backs Tom Hardy To Become Next James Bond

Tom Hardy is one of the favourites to tackle the role of James Bond after Daniel Craig, and he has a fan in former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan.
With the currently untitled 25th James Bond film currently in the works, with director Danny Boyle working on the project with lead actor Daniel Craig, excitement surrounding the series continues to build. Exactly what we'll see become of 007 in the movie remains to be seen, but we can be sure it's going to be a feast for the eyes.
Indian authorities have suggested that the actor could be fined 5,000 rupees ($78 or £56) or even go to jail for up to two years if he does not offer a suitable explanation, for going against the country's law prohibiting the advertisement of tobacco products.

Quan seems like just a meek old businessman from Hong Kong, but when his teenage daughter is killed during a terrorist bombing on a regular London street just moments after leaving his car, he is overwhelmed with a desire for revenge. Quan bombards Hennessy with phone calls and visits to his office, even offering him money to spill inside information, but pretty soon he begins to run out of patience. Hennessy insists he knows nothing about the motives behind the attack not the criminals behind it, but Quan isn't the only one who is not convinced by his denial. He will stop at nothing to take justice for his daughter, and sure enough he transforms from a humble expat to a dangerous killing machine.

Thomas is feeling disillusioned by the bright city lights of New York following his college graduation. He's looking for something special, and he hopes he can find it in his friend Mimi Pastori. The only problem is, she only loves him as a friend and he wants more than that. That becomes the least of his worries, however, when he sees his father kissing a mysterious woman who, needless to say, isn't his mother. He follows the woman, who is named Johanna, and finds himself embroiled in a strange love triangle. Johanna seduces him and he becomes enchanted by her, though his feelings for her are obviously tainted by her involvement with his father. To make matters more complicated, Mimi is now seemingly jealous of Thomas' new love interest, and she has her own reservations about it. Thankfully, Thomas does at least have someone to talk to about it, but is his new neighbour W.F. Gerald really the best person to give him advice?

Fellow 007 actors Craig and Brosnan took to social media to pay tribute to Sir Roger Moore after news of his death broke yesterday.
In the wake of the death of Sir Roger Moore, two of his fellow James Bond actors have paid tribute to the legendary figure.
Current 007 Daniel Craig and his immediate predecessor Pierce Brosnan both took to their social media accounts upon hearing the news of Moore’s passing on Tuesday (May 23rd), after what the actor’s three children described as a “short but brave battle with cancer”.
Writing via Facebook, Brosnan, who starred in four James Bond films from 1995 to 2002, said: “You were a big part of my life, from 'The Saint' to James Bond… you were a magnificent James Bond and one that led the way for me, the world will miss you and your unique sense of humor for years to come.”

Pierce Brosnan spoke about the devastation of losing his wife Cassandra and daughter Charlotte to ovarian cancer in a new interview with Esquire.
Pierce Brosnan has opened up about the lasting effect that personal tragedies have had upon his life, having lost both his wife and daughter to ovarian cancer.
The former James Bond star, 63, lost his first wife Cassandra, an Australian actress, to the disease back in 1991. 22 years later, in 2013, the same devastating condition took his adopted daughter Charlotte. Just last year, ovarian cancer also claimed the life of his film-producing partner, Beau Marie St. Clair.
“I don’t look at the cup as half full, believe me,” he told Esquire in a new interview. “The dark, melancholy Irish black dog sits beside me from time to time.”

James Corden bravely opened up about the rudest celebrity he'd ever encountered to Khloe Kardashian and his audience during a segment on 'The Late Late Show'. As it turns out, Pierce Brosnan was the one that most sticks in his mind after the latter shoved the presenter at a concert.
That's the danger with being rude to talk-show hosts - they may not necessarily be at the top of the A list, but they do know all the A listers and have friends in high places, so we imagine the former James Bond star isn't going to hear the end of this one after he knocked the host down during a U2 show at the Forum in Los Angeles.
