Veteran actress Liz Smith has died aged 95, a spokesperson for her family has confirmed. Smith, who played Nana in BBC comedy ‘The Royle Family’, passed away on Christmas eve.
Just days before her death the BBC had aired ‘The Royle Family’s’ 2006 special episode, The Queen of Sheba, which told the story of her character’s death.

Peter Hook Claims Ex-Wife Caroline Aherne Was Physically Abusive

In his new autobiography 'Substance', ex-New Order bassist Hook describes suffering domestic violence at Aherne's hands during their two-year marriage.
Former New Order bassist Peter Hook has spoken out about alleged domestic abuse he suffered at the hands of his ex-wife, the late comedienne Caroline Aherne, in his new autobiography.
Hook, 60, who co-founded the legendary Joy Division who later became New Order, wrote in his new book ‘Substance’ that he put up with years of abuse that often turned physical during his two-year marriage to Aherne which ended in 1996.
“Yes I loved her, yes she could be very funny, and there were times I felt privileged to have a private audience with such a great comic talent. But she was also a very troubled person and nowhere did that manifest itself more than in our relationship.”

Friends And Co-Stars Pay Tribute To Caroline Aherne

The BAFTA winning actress, comedian and writer sadly passed away on Saturday (June 2) after a long battle with cancer.
Tributes have poured in for Caroline Aherne, who sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 52, after a long battle with cancer. A TV fixture throughout the nineties, Aherne will be best remembered for her Mrs Merton character and sitcom ‘The Royle Family’, which she starred in and co-wrote with Craig Cash.
Speaking to The Mirror, Ricky Tomlinson who played her father Jim on ‘The Royle Family’ said: “She was absolutely wonderful and amazing to work for. Kind, funny, witty. A true professional and one of the most generous people I ever worked with.”

Comedian And Actress Caroline Aherne Dies Age 52

Aherne was best known for her role in ‘The Royale Family’ and her Mrs Merton character.
Comedian and actress Caroline Aherne has died aged 52, her publicist has confirmed. The BAFTA award winner had been battling cancer for years and in April 2014 revealed she was receiving treatment for lung cancer.
In a statement Aherne’s publicist Neil Reading said: "Caroline Aherne has sadly passed away, after a brave battle with cancer. The Bafta award-winning writer and comedy actor died earlier today at her home in Timperley, Greater Manchester. She was 52. The family ask for privacy at this very sad time.”

'Royle Family' Star Caroline Aherne Treated For Lung Cancer

Caroline Aherne is receiving treatment for lung cancer.
Writer and comedian Caroline Aherne is recovering from treatment for lung cancer. The Royle Family star, who has previously had bladder and eye cancer, is to speak at an appeal to improve cancer care in Manchester on June 26.
Aherne, 50, said of the appeal: "I've had cancer and my brother's had cancer and we know how it affects people."
