It may be one of the most talked about scandals of the year but actress Amy Adams is keeping quiet about the Sony hacks and her decision has cost her latest film Big Eyes national television coverage.

Adams was due to appear on Today this week but, as Us Weekly reports, her segment was cancelled after she refused to discuss the hacks of Sony Pictures. Adams was reportedly informed she would be questioned about the hacks particularly the documents acquired and spread by the hackers.

Adams was the subject of one of the hacks and documents concerning her role in American Hustle came to light. Adams and her female co-star Jennifer Lawrence were reportedly paid considerably less than their male counterparts in the 2013 film. Whether this more personal aspect or the hacks in general were the intended focus of the questions cannot be ascertained but it is safe to assume Adams was unwilling to even touch upon the subject.

Sources, speaking to Us Weekly, have painted quite different pictures of the Today show's decision to cancel Adams' appearance. One source claims Adams was not to blame and had, when informed she may be questioned about Sony, simply stated she did not wish to address the hack on the show.

"Amy's segment was pulled very suddenly after she expressed that she'd rather not discuss the Sony hack. She was not aggressive or freaking out. It is unfortunate. Amy didn't do anything wrong and they pulled the interview," one source said.

Big Eyes
Adams was supposed to appear on the Today show to promote Big Eyes, the film in which she stars opposite Waltz.

However, a representative for the Today show claimed Adams was making "demands". The representative stated: "As a news program, the Today show doesn't allow guests to put restrictions on interviews. In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made, and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview."

Adams was on the show in order to publicise her latest film Big Eyes. The film, directed by Tim Burton, centres on the relationship between artist Margaret Keane and her husband Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz). Although Adams may have lost the film coverage, the company behind Big Eyes has issued a statement of support.

"We firmly stand behind Amy Adams. We've been lucky enough to have had her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off set. Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that Today would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable [answering], and rather than respect her opinion or continue the discussion, the reaction was to pull her appearance from the show," The Weinstein Company's statement reads, as the Huffington Post reports.
