Tina Fey Thinks It's Still A 'Terrible Time' For Women In Comedy

Tina Fey Amy Poehler

As one of the most successful women in comedy Tina Fey is among the most recognisable funny ladies on the planet. Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Make A Hilarious Return To 'Saturday Night Live'

Amy Poehler Tina Fey Amy Schumer

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were back together on ‘Saturday Night Live’ this weekend, hosting the show’s annual festive episode. The Sisters' stars' return to the series had us all excited for weeks and these two definitely didn’t disappoint and what’s better is, they even brought back Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin!

Tina Fey and Amy PoehlerAmy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted ‘SNL’ together on Saturday night.

It felt like 2008 again during one sketch as the current Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) had a dream in which she’s visited by her past self (played by Poehler). Past Hillary had plenty of advice for her current self as she prepares to try and make her White House dreams come true.

Fey And Poehler Were Destined To Play Sisters

Tina Fey Amy Poehler

"I think our shorthand that we have with each other makes it easier," says Fey. "Neither of us has a sister, we both have brothers." "I'm personally a little obsessed with sisters," chimes in Poehler. "They are exotic creatures to me. I love being around them and watching them interact. It's like a special language. I think that Tina and I are chosen sisters, so I think it's been fun to experience that thing I never got to experience in real life. We have a moment in the film where we first see each other and just pick on each other like apes. We find that physicalness can be really sisterly - very specific to that relationship."

Sisters Tina Fey & Amy PoehlerSisters Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

In addition to the sister thing, both actresses enjoyed playing with their public personas. "There's a moment," says Poehler, "where Tina's character Kate decides for once 'I'm going to be responsible for tonight' and my character Maura decides 'I'm going to really let loose'. So it's like everybody's wish fulfilment in the film. Everybody gets to be the person they didn't get to be."

Sisters Review

Good

From their inspired pairing on Saturday Night Live and their hysterical 2008 comedy Baby Mama to their riotous hosting of the Golden Globes, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are one of the funniest double-acts in recent memory. So even if they make a film as limp as this one, it's still packed with plenty of laughs. With a simplistic premise and obvious gags, the film isn't nearly as clever as they are. But they make it watchable.

As the title suggests, they play siblings: Kate (Fey) is a single mother with no job and nowhere to live, while Maura (Poehler) has never quite recovered from her divorce. Then their parents (Dianne Wiest and James Brolin) announce that they're selling the family home in Orlando, so Kate and Maura return to clean out their childhood bedrooms. And they're inspired to throw one last epic house party, inviting all of their old high school friends (including John Leguizamo), their school arch-nemesis (Maya Rudolph), a beefy drug dealer (John Cena) and a cute new neighbour (Ike Barinholtz).

Unsurprisingly, once the alcohol starts flowing, things get way out of hand.

Who said cutthroat corridors of U.S television was a man's world? Sofia Vergara has proved that the era of the disgustingly high-paid leading man (Laurie, Sheen) may well be over, by not only topping the highest paid TV actress list for a tired consecutive , but taking the top-spot overall.

The actress earned $37 million last year, that's some $11 million more than the top-earning TV actor Ashton Kutcher. The Colombian-born star earns a reported $325,000 per episode for 'Modern Family' - way off the reported $1 million per episode deal that Kaley Cuoco signed on 'The Big Bang Theory' - but Vergara's earnings come from endorsements and licensing deals with Diet Pepsi, CoverGirl, Head & Shoulders, AT&T and Synthroid. As Forbes note, the actress is also the co-founder of Latin World Entertainment - a huge multi-million dollar episode.

Just Like Its Host, Seth Meyers's Late Night Is Low-Key, Sharp And Political

Seth Meyers Jimmy Fallon Amy Poehler

It looks like Seth Meyers is going for the “start slow and build up from there” approach with his move to Late Night – that’s if his first show is any indication, at least. Taking over from Fallon, who started his Tonight Show run with a rooftop performance by U2 and more celebrity cameos than we could count last week, Meyers struck a completely different note. His hosting style seems to be much more about sharp one liners and crisp delivery, than anything else, really. He did mimic Fallon in one respect though – Meyers used the long-running Late Night segment “Thank You Notes” to send his predecessor a message of gratitude. Seated at his desk, Meyers wrote a letter to Jimmy Fallon, promising to treat Late Night "with respect and dignity and to only use it to do completely original comedy pieces … starting now.” Ha.

Seth Meyers
Meyers' first Late Night set a completely different tone.

His guests for the night were carefully chosen, obviously to pay homage to Meyers’ SNL roots. For his first guest, Meyers welcomed "Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler. Friends since they both joined the cast of "SNL" in 2001, the two shared an easy rapport. Poehler had nothing but encouragement for her former colleague. Mostly.

Seth Meyers Leaves SNL For Greener Pastures With Emotional Weekend Update

Seth Meyers Amy Poehler Bill Hader Melissa McCarthy Imagine Dragons

This week’s Saturday Night Live was hosted by Melissa McCarthy and featured some great sketches with her, but it was really Seth Meyers who stole the show. And rightfully so – it was Meyers’ last episode at the Weekend Update desk. Joined by former SNL co-stars Bill Hader (as Stefon) and Amy Poehler, Meyers was given a proper Weekend Update sendoff.

Seth Meyers, Golden Globes After Party
Seth Meyers said "so long" to SNL and moved on to greener pastures (and a premium time slot.)

Meyers is moving on to the next step of his career – replacing Jimmy Fallon as the host of Late Night – but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some emotional goodbyes. "This is the job I always wanted, and I had the best time," Meyers said in lieu of a witty closing line at the end of his last Weekend Update.

NBC Expects 'Parks & Recreation' Renewal, With Other Shows Still In Limbo

NBC Amy Poehler Michael J Fox Jonathan Rhys Meyers Dan Harmon

NBC have teased at what shows they are due to renew and which they are likely to drop from their schedules at the TCA press tour this weekend. Given how vague the network executives were at the press meeting, we can't exactly confirm anything, but what we can say is that Parks & Recreation will more than likely be getting a seventh season, everything else might not be so lucky.

Star Amy Poehler and the rest of her Parks & Rec. castmates celebrate the show's 100th episode

“I’m going out on a limb: Parks and Recreation is going to have a 7th season,” was the word of the NBC's entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt at the TCA event, giving the closest thing to a solid confirmation regarding the future of a NBC show. The only other shows that held a similar kind of certainty were two popular comedies: Parenthood and Community.

Mindy Kaling Feels As Though 'Elle' Cover Critics Are "Insulting" Her

Mindy Kaling Allison Williams Amy Poehler Zooey Deschanel David Letterman

When Elle presented their four-cover edition of their latest edition, their 'Women in TV' issue, it featured four of the most prominent female TV stars working today. Among the four was The Mindy Project star Mindy Kaling, whose cover caused an unwarranted amount of controversy and conversation over how the majority of her body was cropped out of the cover image, unlike the other, mostly full-body other three.

Mindy Kaling

White, skinny actresses Allison Williams, Amy Poehler and Zooey Deschanel all feature from the knee up and in full colour on their respective cover photos for the February issue of the magazine, whereas Kaling's image is in black and white and her picture is much more close up than the rest, with her chest, face and one arm only seen in the picture. For some, this looked way too suspicious to be a coincidence and the online crusaders stood up for Kaling in their droves. Trouble is, Kaling didn't really want standing up for and the arguments her so-called supporters were crusading for were actually a little hurtful.

According to popular opinion, the powerhouse comedy duo of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey did a fantastic job of hosting the Golden Globes. Fortunately the women, who coined the lyrics “I dreamed a dream of dadada/And then I went to make a sandwich” and the “Neil Patrick Harris, take off your pants!” sketch, have been approached for another turn at the event and have even been invited back for a third time in 2015, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The ladies will be back at the 2014 and 2015 Golden Globes.

As for hosting the Oscars, however, that’s a whole other story. In a recent interview, Fey spoke about what is arguably the biggest, most publicized award show in the business, to the effect that she and Poehler would not be interested due to the more restrictive nature of the Oscars. It is a widely known fact that the Golden Globes give their hosts, as well as the writers, a higher degree of creative freedom. In fact, for the 2013 Golden Globe, Fey and Poehler brought in a team of writers and actors, who made the entire affair resemble a Saturday Night Live reunion, enlisting Seth Meyers, writer Robert Carlock (who also worked with Fey as showrunner on "30 Rock") and "Saturday Night Live" producer Mike Shoemaker for help.

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler Steal The Show At The Emmys, Taking Over Neil Patrick Harris' Opening Speech

Tina Fey Amy Poehler Neil Patrick Harris Kevin Spacey

The Emmys came and went and brought with them a plethora of funny, embarrassing and just plain meh moments. Neil Patrick Harris’ opening speech never fails to win a few laughs, as it did again this time, but it was really the golden duo – Tina Fey and Amy Poehler – who stole the show. About five minutes into Harris’ speech, Poehler and Fey, clearly inspired by recent events at the VMAs began hollering at the host. But of course, the bit – hilarious in our humble opinion - didn’t come without some proper build-up.

Tina Fey, Primetime Emmy Awards
Though the stage was populated by men, it was the ladies who mostly dominated the opening bit.

Two things became clear during Harris’ showdown with a flock of past Emmy presenters – Jane Lynch, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and of course, the omniscient Conan O’Brian. Number one: in 2013 more than ever, broadcast television has some major competition in the media landscape and two: everyone is perfectly aware. While the presenters battled it out on stage, in the audience, Kevin Spacey turned to the camera for his own nefarious monologue.

Parks and RecreationAmy Poehler’s masterpiece of an ABC comedy is set to lose a pair of castmembers after its current season. Rashida Jones – who plays the conscientious nurse-turned-Pawnee-city-council member and Rob Lowe – the council’s extremely health-conscious city manager – are both leaving the show at the end of its current 13-episode run. The lineup change has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. It will happen sometime in February 2014. Tears will be shed.

Rob Lowe, Made in NY
No explanation was given for the actors' departure.

Jones and Lowe’s characters have been dating on and off for some time in the series, so this could at least provide an easy way for the writing team to tie up the loose ends around their departure. Fans might find additional comfort in the numerous cameos, already announced for this upcoming season. During the premiere, on September 26 this year, the action will take place in London and it will reportedly involve appearances from Heidi Klum and the Happy Days icon Henry Winkler.

What Do The Emmy Nominations Tell Us About The 2013 TV Landscape?

Amy Poehler Tina Fey Jason Bateman Kevin Spacey

Emmy nominations are in and with that the season for speculation is open. There’s no question about one thing though: for a newcomer, Netflix is taking the awards by storm. Although the major networks are welcoming the two productions by the online TV provider – Arrested Development and House of Cards, there’s no doubt that Netflix’s move on the original programming market should be making traditional media giants just a tiny bit nervous. But what exactly are the Netflix shows nominated for? Well, they got the big ones, for Lead Actor, Actress and Directing in a Drama Series and of course, for Outstanding Drama Series overall. Arrested Development also received a big nod, with Jason Bateman being nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Bateman is getting some recognition this year.

Fans of shows generally underappreciated by awards committees, such as Parks & Rec, for example, also have a reason to celebrate. Amy Poehler was nominated for Lead in a comedy, as was Tina Fey for the now cancelled 30 Rock. Behind the Candelabra is ahead of the pack, while HBO’s Game of Thrones and FX’s American Horror Story: Asylum follow close behind. Mad Men is also bowing out on a high note, with several nominations, before it returns in the fall for one final season.

Chelsea Handler Is The Latest Person To Weigh In On Taylor Swift's Love Life: "She's Probably A Virgin"

Taylor Swift Chelsea Handler Tina Fey Amy Poehler

The ladies of Hollywood – or some of them anyway – seem to be unusually interested in one topic lately – Taylor Swift’s love life.

After Tina Fey and Amy Poehler sent a couple of jabs her way during their turn hosting the Golden Globes, Swift took offence and commented with the infamous Madeline Albright quote “There’s a special place in hell, reserved for women who don’t help other women”.

Battle Of The Wits Rages On For Taylor Swift VS Tina Fey And Amy Poehler

Taylor Swift Amy Poehler Tina Fey

Taylor Swift may have thought she was being smart when she quoted Katie Couric, in a Vanity Fair interview, saying “there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” That was pretty smart, but Taylor will never be as smart as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the women that she was directing it at. Not only are Pohler and Fey, no doubt, every inch the feminist that Taylor is, but they’re a whole lot smarter and funnier; that’s why they’re two of America’s most revered comedians right now. And that’s why everyone fell about laughing at their Golden Globes dig at Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift And Amy Poehler Start Newest Celebrity Feud

Taylor Swift Amy Poehler Grammy Awards

There seems to be a reluctant feud boiling up in the world of celebrity: Taylor Swift and Amy Poehler are subtly trading blows in the press, veiled thinly under compliments but biting nevertheless.

It all started when Poehler and her comedy cohort Tina Fey took a wee dig at Swift at the 2013 Grammy Awards. "stay away from Michael J. Fox's son” they quipped, making the country-pop singer one of the only people not to enjoy their work that night. "You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people," Swift told Vanity Fair when they asked about the joke. "Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved that said, ‘There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.'" Poehler’s response was humble, though, as she clearly doesn’t want another #1 hit being written about her. "Aw, I feel bad if she was upset," she said. "I am a feminist and she is a young and talented girl. "That being said, I do agree I am going to hell," the comedian added. "But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff."

Tina Fey Confirms She Is Not Hosting The Oscars Next Year

Tina Fey David Letterman Amy Poehler William Shatner

Tina Fey has reaffirmed that she is not up for hosting the 2014 Oscars ceremony on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' after William Shatner made the suggestion on the televised awards show.

The comedienne told Letterman that she had a 'sweatpants mandatory Oscars party' but admitted that while she enjoyed watching it, she wasn't willing to host the show at any point despite having hosted the Golden Globes ceremony earlier this year with her 'Mean Girls' and 'Baby Mama' co-star Amy Poehler. 'I'll tell you what - for a woman, just the amount of dresses that you would have to try on. It's a dealbreaker. I'm out', she told Letterman, reiterating what she first told Huffington Post in an interview after the ceremony.

Asked how she felt about William Shatner's comment that she and Amy should 'host everything', she told the publication 'It's an honor to be 'Shatnered' before explaining, 'I just feel like that gig is so hard. Especially for, like, a woman - the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone ... no way.' Even after she was asked if there was any possibility at all, she was quick to disappoint her interviewer. 'I wish I could tell you there was', she said.

Why 'Parks And Recreation' Creator Writes A Series Finale, Over And Over Again

Amy Poehler

Parks and Recreation aired the first of its double episode special last night (February 21, 2013), though it felt strangely like a SERIES finale. The thing is, it was a designed to be just that, given the episode was the last of the season's initial 13-episode order. As HitFix.com explains, the last few season finales of NBC's hit comedy have functioned as series finales because nobody really knows when the show is going to be hauled off the air.

Though regarded as one of the finest television series for many years, Parks continues to deliver fairly average ratings and as such plays a dangerous game with network bosses. Co-creator Mike Schur, quite sensibly, approaches each season finale as if it will be the show's finale episode and therefore aims to wrapping up the stories of Leslie, Ron and Ben over and over again. Schur spoke of his unconventional writing technique, explaining, "The way we operate every year is we that don't know what our future is. So we try to tell the juiciest, most interesting stories we can tell," adding, "And at the end of the year, we write a series finale. Something that, if this is it, we go out the way we want to go out. And we try not to close it off so completely that if the show comes back for another year, that we have nowhere to go." This week's two episodes were supposed to be the final episodes of season five, though NBC ordered 9 more for the season and are keen on renewing the whole thing for season six.

It looks as though Schur and his teams will be writing a couple more 'series finales' yet.

Will Taylor Swift Ever, Ever Ever Write A Song About Tina Fey?

Tina Fey Taylor Swift Amy Poehler

After Tina Fey mocked Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes, is she worried that Taylor will write one of her trademark cutting songs about her? “I hope so,” Fey told Access Hollywood, “I would love it!” She insists that she meant no harm to Taylor, either. “I just feel like it was just a little joke, like two of your aunts, two of your old lady aunts teasing you at the Thanksgiving table, that’s all it was.”

Fey was speaking at the Screen Actors Guild awards, where she took home a trophy for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In a Comedy Series, for 30 Rock. Fey told Access Hollywood that she was glad to be out celebrating with her 30 Rock crew, before the show ends, saying “Our whole ensemble’s here and our show’s ending this Thursday, so this is our, maybe our last trip out all together, so we’re just so thrilled to be here.” The series finale of the NBC show will be aired this week.

No doubt it was easier for Fey to be on the receiving end of the award, than taking on the more challenging task of hosting the Golden Globes, which she did with aplomb, alongside her sidekick Amy Poehler. When asked if she would take the role on again, she said “Oh my gosh, we’ll see, we’ll see. It certainly was fun, we did have a good time. We’ll see, we’ll see if they want us back.”

Final Ballots For Screen Actors Guild Awards In Today

Daniel Day Lewis Denzel Washington John Hawkes Hugh Jackman Bradley Cooper Marion Cotillard Jennifer Lawrence Naomi Watts Louis C.K. Amy Poehler Jeff Daniels

We won't know who'll walk away with the top prizes on offer at this year's Screen Actors Guild until Sunday (Jan 27), but there are a few people who might know already as the deadline for the final ballots for this years awards ceremony is today.

At noon (PT) the members of SAG will have their final say in who wins what at the 19th annual awards show at the weekend and it really is anyone's race to take home the top prizes (except for Best Actor, because Daniel Day-Lewis does not lose these awards).

Feel-good Brit-hit The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is the surprise entrant to the Best Picture Category, facing stiff competition from Lincoln, Argo, Les Miserables and Silver Linings Playbook. Meanwhile, Day-Lewis is against Denzel Washington (Flight), Hugh Jackman (Les Mis), Bradley Cooper (SLP) and Oscar-snub John Hawkes (The Sessions), whilst the Actress section looks a little more familiar, with Jessica Chastin (Zero Dark Thirty), Helen Mirren (Hitchcock), Jennifer Lawrence (SLP), Marion Cotillard (Rust and Bone) and Naomi Watts (The Impossible) are battling it out for the top acting prize.

Michael J Fox And Taylor Swift ... Fox Warns Swift Away From His Son, Sam Michael Fox

Michael J Fox Taylor Swift Tina Fey Amy Poehler

Michael J Fox and Taylor Swift are unlikely to be sharing any cosy family get-togethers any time soon. After Tina Fey mocked Taylor’s recent string of short-lived romances, at the Golden Globes last weekend (January 13, 2013), by saying “Taylor Swift, you stay away from Michael J Fox’s son,” Fox senior told Vulture that he’s really not keen on the idea of his son, Sam Michael Fox dating Taylor Swift.

Speaking at a book party for Ann Leary’s The Good House, Fox was asked what he thought about the idea of Taylor dating his son and he replied “No. No ... Just back off… I don’t keep up with it all," he said. "But Taylor Swift writes songs about everybody she goes out with, right?" Right! "What a way to build a career.” When asked what he’d do if she turned up at a family dinner, he replied “I wouldn’t even know who she was.” Ouch. Bit of a blow for one of the biggest stars on the planet. It seems as though Taylor Swift’s reputation for getting through men and trashing them in song form is getting bigger than her bank balance.

Tina Fey joked that Taylor needed a bit of “me time,” to get to know herself a little better again. And you know what? We think she might have a point. Taylor recently had a very brief fling with One Direction’s Harry Styles and before that, it was Conor Kennedy. And before that? Listen, we could be here for days. At least Sam Michael Fox is off the list though, thanks to his dad.

Over To You Seth MacFarlane: How Will Oscars Host Fare After Tina Fey And Amy Poehler's Groundbreaking Golden Globes Performance?

Seth Macfarlane Tina Fey Amy Poehler Ricky Gervais Jodie Foster

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were widely hailed as successful hosts of last night’s Golden Globes, keeping it clean but funny. So much so that it caused the Guardian to remark that it was something of a ground-breaking moment in awards history. “Something rather important happened last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Something groundbreaking. Something record-setting,” they wrote. “Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved that hosts of an awards ceremony can actually be funny.” Now, of course, all eyes are turning to Seth Macfarlane, who – somehow – has to try and do the same at the Oscars. No pressure, there Seth… no pressure.

MacFarlane was clearly taking notes last night, ahead of his Oscars moment and he was quick with the praise for the duo. “Please give Tina and Amy high marks because they did great,” he told the press and explained that he’s well aware of the pressure that he’s under, as the Oscars host and said “Oscars hosts always get thrashed.” Of course, Tina and Amy had the benefit, you could argue, of having each other to bounce off and work with. Seth won’t have the luxury of a comedy partner but what he will have is the eyes of the world upon him. The Golden Globes are a mere precursor to the international weight of the Oscars.

Poehler and Fey were careful not to cause the kind of barrel-scraping outrage that Ricky had done before them and it seems that the raciest thy got with their jokes was probably in relation to Kathryn Bigelow, when Fey said “I haven't been following the controversy about 'Zero Dark Thirty,' but when it comes to torture, I'll trust the lady who was married to James Cameron for three years.” They ended the evening by announcing that they were going home with Jodie Foster who had just been on the stage confirming that, as the world kind of knew anyway, she was definitely gay. If we were Seth MacFarlane, we’d be worried; seems like Amy and Tina got to all the good jokes first, huh?

Ben Affleck got his redemption at the Golden Globes last night (January 13)

Though the Oscars is undoubtedly the big one, there’s traditionally been a lot of love for the Golden Globes among the Hollywood fraternity, with the event being seen as a generally looser, less formal affair than its prestigious counterpart – even if the actors have had to cope with the barbs of Ricky Gervais in recent years. The jibes still came from Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, but they were delivered with far more good grace than those thrown by the British comic.

Golden Globes 2012 Red Carpet Promo - Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Bring The Laughs

Tina Fey Amy Poehler Ricky Gervais

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler joked their way though a press conference about their hosting roles at Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony.

They were big on jokes and low on facts but we guess that’s what you’d expect from comedy’s leading ladies. According to USA Today, the conference was more like a stand-up routine than your average promotional chat but it certainly makes for entertaining reading.

When they were asked how their background in improv will come in handy during the broadcast, Tina answered “If a drunk person wanders onstage, we'll know how to handle it” and when they were pitted against each other to see who was asked to do the job first, Poehler answered “One of us and the car from Transformers,” whilst Fey backed her up by saying “there was not a door large enough in the venue to get the car in there.” Their casual approach to their hosting gig continued when they were grilled about how much preparation they’d put into it, with Fey saying “we just a really long nap and now we’re, ‘Oh my God, it’s Sunday.’”

Comedy Duo Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Open Up On Golden Globes

Tina Fey Amy Poehler Ricky Gervais

Former Saturday Night Live-ers Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will helm the third biggest night (according to viewing figures) in the film calendar, as they aim to be less offensive but just as memorable as Ricky Gervais when they host The Golden Globes.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter about saying yes to The Globes as opposed to other ceremonies, Fey passed the buck to Poehler, saying, "Well, Amy, you've been asked to perform at the Super Bowl a bunch of times."

Picking up the baton, Amy concurred, "That's right. But I told them my show is too big for that venue. And I was actually one of the people carrying stuff at the Olympics Opening Ceremony, but nobody noticed. [Laughs.] No, we've fortunately been to a few of these awards show things now, and we've had some fun while we were there. And then the Golden Globes is just quirky and weird enough, I think that it's up our alley."

Tin Fey Said To Be Eyeing Up Muppets Sequel Role

Tina Fey Amy Poehler Ricky Gervais Ty Burrell

The Hollywood Reporter have exclusively announced that Tina Fey is eyeing up a role in the new Muppets movie sequel. Just days before she’s due to host The Golden Globes with Amy Poehler, it’s been revealed that Fey is a likely contender to star alongside Ricky Gervais in the part-puppet, part-human caper.

The sources that revealed the news to The Hollywood Reporter did not give away the details of the script, which will be kept under wraps a little while longer, but the character descriptions have given away hints of a ‘caper,’ it seems. Tina Fey will play a Russian gulag prison guard, apparently, if the deal gets the go-ahead. Meanwhile, Ty Burrell, the Modern Family star will also have a role in the movie, as a lazy Interpol inspector. James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, are co-writing the script and David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are back in production roles, hoping to recapture the success of the 2011 movie starring Amy Adams and Jason Segel.

Tina Fey, known for her work on TV comedies such as 30 Rock, last featured in a movie in 2010, when she starred in Date Night. She’s also due to star in Admission, alongside Paul Rudd – that one’s due out in March.

Pitch Perfect Star Rebel Wilson To Host MTV Movie Awards 2013

Rebel Wilson Sarah Silverman Russell Brand Amy Poehler Tina Fey Lindsay Lohan Jessica Alba

Rebel Wilson, the comedy actress currently starring in Pitch Perfect, will host the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, the network announced in a first look trailer on Thursday (December 20, 2012). Set to air on April 14, Wilson will become the first woman to host the event since Sarah Silverman emceed in 2007.

Female comedians are taking over next year's awards' ceremonies, with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey tasked with hosting the Golden Globes. The MTV Awards sometimes get it right with their hosts (Russell Brand, Andy Samberg, Sarah Silverman, Will Smith), though often get it very, very, wrong. Lindsay Lohan hosted in 2004, while Jessica Alba didn't exactly set the show alight in 2006. Anyway, Wilson - as the comedy actress of the moment - seems a pretty solid choice. The Australian played Brynn in the smash-hit Bridesmaids and went on to star in A Few Best Men, What To Expect When You're Expecting, and Pitch Perfect. She's currently writing a comedy named Super Fun for the ABC Network, and stars alongside Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson in the action-comedy Pain & Gain.

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards was held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles in June. It was dominated by The Hunger Games, Twilight and Bridesmaids.

Golden Globe Hosts Announced: Tina Fey And Amy Poehler To Take The Stage

Tina Fey Amy Poehler

The Golden Globes nominations have been announced, but what’s even better is that we’re getting our hosts for this year and they are none other than... drum-roll please... Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Excuse us while we jump up and down and squeal in a fangirl-ish manner. Fey and Poehler’s first promo for the Golden Globes has been released as well and it’s fairly safe to say that we’ll be enjoying the actresses’ trademark comedic chemistry. The pair have been working together on Saturday Night Live for a while now and creating some of the show’s most memorable sketches, so at least we know what to expect – “girl humor” at its finest.

Fay and Poehler are also both nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series - 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation, respectively. With the two competing in the same category, some reviewers are already wondering if tensions will be running high on show night. The phrase “Are you kidding?” comes to mind. It may be friendly competition, but, if at least one sketch in the show isn’t based on that, personally, we will be very disappointed. The Golden Globe Awards are set to air on January 13 on NBC, promising “Hollywood’s most unpredictable party of the year.” While that title is probably more suited to a Playboy Mansion binger, the award show certainly looks worth tuning in.

VP Joe Biden To Make Cameo On Parks And Recreation

Amy Poehler Adam Scott John McCain Barack Obama

The November 15, 2012 episode of Parks and Recreation will feature a very special guest, Entertainment Weekly has revealed! Vice President Joe Biden, who recently got re-elected for a second term in the White House is going to make an appearance in the comedy series.

Ben Wyatt (played by Adam Scott) takes his fiancée (and city councilwoman) Leslie Knope (played Amy Poehler) to the White House to meet Biden and it’s no secret that Knope has a crush on Joe Biden – she’s previously stated that her ideal man would have “the brains of George Clooney and the body of Joe Biden”).

When the show travelled to Washington DC to film the Season 5 debut, they managed to bag some time with the VP, in addition to the appearances from Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snow and John McCain. The executive producer of the show joked “[Leslie] has a lot of social figures that she considers heroes, but the funniest hero is Joe Biden. There’s an episode last season where she says, ‘Joe Biden is on my celebrity sex list — well, he is my celebrity sex list’… It was amazing to have her meet Olympia Snowe and Barbara Boxer because that meant something to her politically. But this transcends that. She’s meeting the man that she’s in love with on some deep level. It was a bigger deal to us in some ways that she meet Joe Biden than it was that she meet Barack Obama.”

Is Ricky Gervais Angry About Tina Fey, Amy Poehler Golden Globes Announcement?

Ricky Gervais Amy Poehler Tina Fey

How does Ricky Gervais feel about Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosting the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards next year? Ricky has hosted the awards for the last three years, getting himself in a fair amount of hot water along the way, it has to be said but now he’s handing the reins over and – in true Gervais style – he’s made a few barbed comments, mainly aimed at E! for failing to include him in the annual Golden Globes best dressed list.

In a statement he gave exclusively to Entertainment Weekly, Gervais said “Good luck to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at the Golden Globes. After failing three years in a row to make E! Channel’s Best Dressed list, I decided to hand over the reins,” said Gervais, adding, “Let me know if you run out of Scientology gags.” Gervais became known for sailing a little too close to the wind during his Golden Globes hosting stints. His 2011 opening monologue, for example, went like this: It's going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking. Or as Charlie Sheen calls it – breakfast. Wow, so let's get this straight, so what he did was, he picked up a porn star, paid her to have dinner with him, introduced her to his ex-wife – as you do – went to a hotel, got drunk, got naked, trashed the place while she was locked in a cupboard, and that was a Monday. What does he do New Year's Eve?” And it didn’t really let up from thereon in. Is he genuinely angry about losing the job though, or just having fun?

On Monday (October 15, 2012), NBC announced that Fey and Poehler would take on presenting duties, with their “unparalleled comedic timing” cited as the reason for landing the job.

Golden Globes Hosts Announced! Tina Fey And Amy Poehler To Replace Ricky Gervais

Tina Fey Amy Poehler Ricky Gervais

Our shocked laughs had all eventually been turned down to a gentle titter over three years of Ricky Gervais' Golden Globes, and the British comic and some-would-say actor has finally been given the year off from heckling his own audience for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. In his place, Sky News are reporting that the role is to be split between co-hosts, with two of the funniest comic actresses on the planet at the moment taking over the reins.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been announced as the hosts for the 2013 event by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Fey has been winning over fans sine 2006 for her role on the hugely successful comedy '30 Rock', whilst Poehler has come into real acclaim as part of the cast on 'Parks and Recreation'. The Globes is traditionally one of the biggest awards shows of the spring heading into the Oscars, with many of its winners going on to find success at the Academy. As such, hosting is sure to give them a further profile boost even beyond their current popularity.

When the Globes asked Gervais to host in 2010, it marked the first time the event had had a compere since 1995. Given his outrageous success in the role though, it looks like it'll be a position around for a while to come.

Julia Louis-Dreyfuss Outshines Kimmel In Emmy’s Prank

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Amy Poehler Jimmy Kimmel Tracy Morgan

The Emmys: a renowned rewards show, recognising the very top talents in contemporary television, or a chance to showcase some cutting edge prank work? Hmm.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus certainly thinks the latter applies, as she got a touch of the Kimmels and played a prank in front of the live studio audience. Accepting her award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy, Dreyfus started reading a speech from a crumped piece of paper, before her and Amy Poehler ‘realised’ they’d switched speeches. A quick turn around, a spot of acting and plenty of laughs later, the speech was nearly given, but not before the pair squeezed another gag in, with the former Seinfeld star saying, "Isn't it a shame that Amy Poehler didn't win?" It was a joke in good tact, and a showed a refreshing level of self-awareness from the comedy pair. Well done, we say.

Jimmy Kimmel would have been watching from the wings, snarling that his prank, which involved a fake collapse of Tracey Morgan had to play second fiddle. "OMG, Tracy Morgan just passed out at the Emmys. Turn on ABC right now!" he implored fans to share on their social media accounts. Sure, Morgan was in on the joke, and it was a clever touch to involve fans in interactive social media, but it wasn’t the best prank in the history of awards’ shows. Looks like Kimmel will have to work a bit harder in order to maintain his mantle as Hollywood’s prank king.

Tenacious D: The Pick Of Destiny Review

OK
If Tenacious D's lyrics are to be believed, then the two-man super group is the universe's greatest rock band.

Comprised of dueling acoustic guitarists Jack Black and Kyle Gass, the D fills albums with harmonious and ridiculously clever odes to their own awesomeness. Their rock operas would make excellent B-sides for Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell album. Indeed, the band belongs on a triple bill with '70s monsters of melodic metal Black Sabbath and Queen.

Envy (2004) Review

Terrible
The last half hour of Saturday Night Live is inevitably a wasteland. Talented comedians are given Z grade material that goes nowhere. Imagine if the entire show were that dismal. That, in a nutshell, is Envy.

It begins with two working stiffs, Tim (Ben Stiller) and Nick (Jack Black) plodding their lives away at a 3M facility. By-the-book Tim is creeping into middle management while dreamer Nick wallows on the factory floor concocting wacky ideas for useless products. All of that changes when one of Nick's hare-brained schemes, a spray that dissolves dog excrement called Vapoorize (No. Stop. I think I'm gonna bust a gut.), pans out and makes millions.

Envy Review

Terrible

Even if you have not yet tired of the eye-bugging, eyebrow-dancing, class-clown schtick of Jack Black or the eye-bugging, eyebrow-dancing, fretful straight-man schtick of Ben Stiller, the first collaboration between these two one-trick ponies is still unlikely to draw a single laugh for its slapdash story of one-dimensional "Envy" run amok.

The pair star as K-Mart-class stiffs in the sandpaper trade who are best pals and neighbors in an under-the-power-lines cul-de-sac of the San Fernando 'burbs. A fusspot pragmatic by temperament, Stiller slowly turns bitter green when Black -- a wild-eyed daydreamer full of half-baked inventions and get-rich-quick schemes -- gets rich quick by helping conceive an aerosol spray that makes pet poop evaporate.

Soon Stiller and family (Rachel Weisz is wasted in a do-nothing role as his wife) are living across the street from the gaudy uber-mansion that replaced Black's tract home, complete with a carousel on the grounds and Corinthian-styled stables for a white horse that's always getting loose and nibbling on their apple tree. When jealous Stiller accidentally kills the horse in a midnight fit of drunken archery (Black's yard also boasts a bow-and-arrow target range), he tries to hide the body with the help of a weird hobo (Christopher Walken), and hilarity is supposed to ensue.
