"We have several of our strongest comedies by some of our best auspices being held for midseason, including the final season of Parks and Recreation," NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said in the release.

Many fans assumed Parks and Recreation had reached its climax during the last year, which saw various twits and time jumps during the finale, but it was subsequently renewed for a seventh outing.

Creators have confirmed that the last season will stay in its new time setting, with Amy Poehler's character Leslie pregnant with triplets.

Though Parks and Recreation will presumably end naturally, the same cannot be aid Community, which was axed after five seasons last week. Fans are currently spearheading a campaign to bring it back for a final series and a movie, hoping Netflix will resurrected it in the same way it rescued Arrested Development.

Back in April, Parks showrunner Mike Schur said the time-jump was written into the show because he knew the end was near. "I'd say that the finish line is in sight at this point," he told the Hollywood Reporter, "I don't want to say definitively but we've had a lot of internal discussions about it; we've talked to NBC a lot about it. The idea that we're nearing the end is part of what gave us the courage to do something like jumping ahead in time. We know we don't have to sustain it for five years. It's a move you do when you know that the show is nearing the end of its run."
