Schumer had been attached to the Sony project since December 2016.
Though she’s spent months fending off body-shaming trolls over her casting, it turns out that Amy Schumer won’t be bringing Barbie to the big screen after she had to pull out of the forthcoming live-action movie due to schedule conflicts.
“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts. The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners,” Schumer said in a statement to Variety on Friday (March 24th). “I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”
Amy Schumer has pulled out of the live-action 'Barbie' film
The 35 year old comedian and TV star has been attached to the project since she signed up back in December, but with commitments to two other films - Snatched in May and Thank You For Your Service in October – she’s said that this was the responsible choice and had to be made now.
A spokesperson for Sony said in a separate statement: “We respect and support Amy’s decision. We look forward to bringing Barbie to the world and sharing updates on casting and filmmakers soon.”

The live-action Barbie re-make, though it now no longer has a lead star, is tentatively scheduled for release in cinemas on June 29th, 2018.
According to Deadline, this new take on the 50-year-old toy brand will focus on female empowerment and concepts of ‘perfection’, with the search still on for a female director. As well as starring in it, Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele had also been expected to contributing to the script.
Mixing animation with live-action shots, the movie will apparently concern what happens to Barbie after she gets kicked out of Barbieland and into the real world for not being perfect enough.
