The first trailer for the upcoming documentary on Amy Winehouse has been released. Amy, directed by Asif Kapadia, looks like it's going to be haunting, chilling but ultimately heartbreaking. The documentary has been widely anticipated since the project was announced two years ago.

The trailer uses footage from Winehouse's early days performing, showing her at school plays and on home video, before chronologically tracking her career and ultimate tragic demise as substance abuse and mental illness took hold. She is shown passionately working on her music, writing and performing in the studio, and hounded by the paparazzi. 

Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011, at the tragically young age of 27. Her battle with substance abuse was well documented and she openly and bravely addressed her mental health issues a number of times. She continues to be remembered as a talented musician who, as Kapadia implies, became the victim of her own success.

Kapadia, the critical acclaimed director of Senna, uses Winehouse's voice from an early interview as a voice over. The interview is one in which the late singer explains how she disliked fame and tragically predicts her own reaction to fame.

"I'm not a girl or a star trying to be anything other than a musician. I don't think I'm going to be at all famous, I don't think I could handle it. I would probably go mad," Winehouse says in the trailer.

The documentary will consist of archive footage of Winehouse and interviews with those who were closest to her, including her parents, friends and ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. 

Amy is due to be released in the UK on 3rd July 2015.
