Andrew Garfield Is Ex Emma Stone's Biggest Fan

Andrew Garfield Emma Stone

During last Sunday’s Golden Globes Andrew Garfield was seen giving Emma Stone a standing ovation when she picked up the Best Actress in a Motion Picture award for La La Land.

The sweet gesture might have been surprising to some, as Garfield and Stone broke-up in October 2015 after for years of dating. But speaking on Vanity Fair’s Little Gold Men podcast, Garfield explained that he’s still Stone’s biggest fan.

Andrew Garfield Says Martin Scorsese Is A 'Gift' To Storytelling

Martin Scorsese Andrew Garfield

Andrew Garfield has praised director Martin Scorsese for his work on their Catholicism based film 'Silence', dubbing him a 'master' at what he does. The film is released this week, and it's already received much critical acclaim for its depiction of the journey of two Jesuit priests to Japan in the 17th century.

SilenceAndrew Garfield stars in 'Silence'

'Silence' has been something that Martin Scorsese wanted to work on since the release of his last major religious project , 1988's 'The Last Temptation of Christ'. It's based on the 1966 novel of the same name by Shusaku Endo and also stars Liam Neeson and Adam Driver. It explores a period of time where Christianity was prohibited in Japan, though missionaries still ventured there to spread the word of God and suffered desperately as a consequence.

Andrew Garfield Didn't Speak For A Week To Prepare For Silence

Andrew Garfield

The film is Martin Scorsese's period drama Silence, about Jesuit priests facing persecution in 17th century Japan. And Garfield says that being part of the film is still reverberating.

"My sensitivity, I think, gets me in so much trouble," he says. "It gives me a tremendous amount of wonderful things in my life, as well. It means that I can connect deeply to things, whether it's other people, characters I play, the struggles of others. But in the same breath, it means I can just as easily connect to the stuff that really f**ks with me! I'm very permeable in that way."

Silence Review

Excellent

Faith is a topic Martin Scorsese can't quite shake, courting controversy with complex films like The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) and Kindun (1997). And now he has adapted the Shusaku Endo novel into this profound exploration of religion. As seen through the eyes of a 17th century Jesuit priest in Japan, it's a dark, contemplative film that sometimes feels a bit too murky for its own good. But it also has bracing insight into our need to believe.

At the centre of the story is the disappearance of Father Ferreira (Liam Neeson) as Japan cracks down on foreign religions in 1640, brutally persecuting local converts. Back in Portugal, two of Ferreira's proteges, Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Garrpe (Adam Driver), volunteer to go in search of him. But the journey is dangerous, requiring them to trust exiled Japanese drunk Kichijiro (Yosuke Kubozuka) to sneak them into a rural village near Nagasaki. There they find an underground group of devout Catholics who are hiding from the cruel Inquisitor Inoue (Issei Ogata). After they split up to search for Ferreira, Rodrigues is captured by Inoue and interrogated by his interpreter (Tadanobu Asano), who is determined to show him that Christianity can never take root in Japan.

The film has an eerie resonance in today's divisive global climate, where everyone seems determined to protect their own culture from any outside influence, especially a religion that seems to run counter to long-held traditions. But the film's deeper themes explore the idea that we all have a yearning to understand the world and our existence in a way that makes sense to us. So debating the relative benefits of Christianity and Buddhism is actually beside the point. When the movie lets these ideas simmer under the surface, it has real power, especially in Rodrigues' experiences, which are gruelling both physically and emotionally.

Liam Neeson: Andrew Garfield Is An 'Extraordinary' Actor

Liam Neeson Andrew Garfield

Liam Neeson has opened up about working alongside Andrew Garfield on their new film 'Silence' - the latter's second movie based on religion this year. 64-year-old Neeson might be an Oscar nominated acting veteran, but that doesn't mean he can't be struck by youthful talent.

Liam NeesonLiam Neeson praises Andrew Garfield

'He's an extraordinary young actor', Liam Neeson mused. 'His commitment to this part, to the film and to Martin was quite extraordinary.' He went on to add that he was deeply impressed by another film that Garfield was a part of this year. 'I recently saw 'Hacksaw Ridge' too. Oh my God!' He exclaimed. 'Two films about faith, my gosh. He's very very special.'

Andrew Garfield Laments "Compromised" Spider-Man Movies

Andrew Garfield Amy Adams

Although they were the movies that made him a household name at the start of the decade, Hollywood star Andrew Garfield has hit out at The Amazing Spider-Man movies for being “corporate” and “compromised”.

In a new video interview with fellow star Amy Adams for Variety, the 33 year old actor expressed his “heartbreak” about being involved with the movies. Garfield was, of course, singled out and dropped from the franchise after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 bombed in 2014, with the planned sequels being folded into the wider Marvel cinematic universe.

Father Sebastião Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Father Francisco Garrpe (Adam Driver) are Portuguese Jesuit priests who set out on a dangerous mission to Japan in a bid to find their mentor Father Cristóvão Ferreira (Liam Neeson) who has been missing for sometime. It's the seventeenth century, and despite what the Bible might say about the importance of spreading the Christian word of God throughout the world, there are just some places on this Earth that brutally forbid it. Needless to say, Ferreira has been ousted from the church to which he belongs after publicly denouncing his faith to save his own life. Rodgrigues and Garrpe are about to discover just how violent the world can be towards everything that they've ever worked for when they arrive in Japan. Surely there is no test of faith that can match the journey that lies ahead for them.

'Hacksaw Ridge' Star Andrew Garfield Doesn't Believe Mel Gibson 'Rarely Enjoys' Movie Making

Mel Gibson Andrew Garfield

Mel Gibson returns to directing with 'Hacksaw Ridge'; the true story of World War 2 hero and army medic Desmond T. Doss who refused to take a weapon into battle. He is played by Andrew Garfield, who is certainly no stranger to on screen heroism.

Andrew GarfieldAndrew Garfield stars in 'Hacksaw Ridge'

When 'Hacksaw Ridge' received its standing ovation at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, it's difficult to know whether the applause was down to the movie or down to that fact that Mel Gibson has finally taken a seat in the director's chair again after 10 years. But it seems that his absence might have little to do with the scandalous outburst of 2006 and more to do with the fact that he doesn't actually like filmmaking that much.

Andrew Garfield Explains Why 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Was Bad

Andrew Garfield

However we try and dress it up, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wasn't very good. It had Jamie Foxx as Electro. It had Paul Giamatti as Rhino. It was a big-budget superhero sequel. It should have been awesome. It was not awesome. And now Andrew Garfield has explained why.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

"When you have something that works as a whole, and then you start removing portions of it...saying, 'No, that doesn't work,' then the thread is broken, and it's hard to go with the flow of the story," Garfield said during an interview with The Daily Beast, suggesting that Sony removed sections of the movie, rendering it incomplete, patchy and poorly formed.

Let Battle Commence: Superhero Studios Fight For Best Opening Weekend

Andrew Garfield

We live in a movie world of superheroes at the moment with franchise after franchise adding more and more sequels to their collections and production companies exploiting as many comic book successes as possible. However, while Thor protects Asgard with his big hammer, Superman tries to anonymously save the world with only a pair of specs as identity protection and Spider-Man deals with his abandonment issues, there are much more sinister fights afoot in production background.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The biggest battle is for release dates and the most recent clamber for the best one began when Sony announced its decision to ‘undate’ The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 which were scheduled to come out on June 10 2016 and May 4 2018 respectively.

The Amazing Spider-man 2 Review

Good

As with the too-early franchise reboot in 2012, this sequel struggles to balance the demands of a teen romance with a superhero blockbuster. The interpersonal storylines are sharply written and skilfully played by the gifted cast, but the eye-catching effects sequences feel like little more than a shiny distraction. Action fans will love the way digitally animated Spidey swings more realistically than ever down the streets of New York, but the fact remains that these scenes are cartoons. And a new template is badly needed for this genre.

It kicks off as Peter (Andrew Garfield) nearly misses his high school graduation to save the city from another crazed nutcase. His girlfriend Gwen (Emma Stone) is fed up, and then crushed when Peter breaks up with her because he's worried about her safety. So she considers taking a place at Oxford University to get away. Meanwhile, Peter is also trying to understand the truth about why his parents (Campbell Scott and Embeth Davidtz) left him to be raised by his Aunt May (Sally Field). But he's interrupted from all of this by the arrival of old pal Harry (Dane DeHaan), back in town to inherit the family business from his dying dad (Chris Cooper) and in need of moral support from Peter.

In each of these three plot strands, Peter faces a significant dilemma that's beautifully played by Garfield as a cheeky, good guy who worries about the darkness all around him. And there's also a nefarious side-plot trying to take over the movie, as nerdy technician Max (Jamie Foxx) is transformed by an electric shock from Spider-man's biggest fan to a spark-emitting villain called Electro. This shift doesn't make sense on any level, and Harry also has a sudden personality change that's badly under-explained, forcing the film into a series of huge action showdowns along with a completely irrelevant aside about two colliding airplanes that feels tacked on to up the human stakes.

Spider-Man Is Jewish. Because Andrew Garfield Says So.

Andrew Garfield Spider Man Stan Lee Emma Stone

He's The Amazing Spider-Man, and he's very much Jewish - this according to the man that plays the superhero in the latest franchise, Andrew Garfield. The British-American actor, who was brought up Jewish, suggests that Spidey's neuroses are a sure-fire sign that the character is culturally Jewish.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Hits In May

"Spider-man is neurotic. Peter Parker is not a simple dude. He can't just switch off," Garfield told Time Out. "He never feels like he's doing enough. And Peter suffers from self-doubt. He ums and ahs about his future because he's neurotic. He's Jewish. It's a defining feature." Whether or not Spider-Man is of Jewish religion has been the subject of feverish internet speculation for years, but it seems Garfield, 30,has already made up his mind.

Just How Good Will 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Be?

Andrew Garfield Emma Stone

We still have about three weeks to wait until The Amazing Spider-Man 2 finally hits the big screen but we’re already bursting with anticipation. The photos and trailers that have been gradually trickling through have really managed to whet our appetites!  We predict that this one is going to the best of all the spider-man movies that have been released over the past 12 years or so (sorry Tobey!), if only because Dane DeHaan’s green goblin looks absolutely freaking terrifying!  The chemistry between Garfield and Stone is always palpable when they’re in a scene together as well, it’s part of what gives the franchise its magic.

The Reviews Are In: "The Amazing Spider-Man" Franchise Finds Its Footing With Sequel

Andrew Garfield Emma Stone Jamie Foxx

The Amazing-Spider Man 2 is out in the UK on April 16, more than two weeks ahead of its US premiere. However, thanks to the magic of press screenings, the reviews for it have already made their way online – most of them positive.

Amazing Spider-Man 2
Jamie Foxx's character seems to be a major selling point of the movie.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Leslie Felperin is mostly impressed with Garfield’s second outing with Spider-Man, even if the film is a bit too packed with villains. “The eponymous hero hits his super-heroic stride here, as does Andrew Garfield in the role, especially when Spider-Man's alter ego Peter Parker learns there's always some fine print in a contract with this many benefits,” Felperin writes. “Likeable as a lollipop” Emma Stone also gets a commendation, as does Jamie Foxx, playing a perfectly maniacal, pushed to the brink Electro: “Even under all the prosthetic make-up and visual effects, Foxx manages to project a literally white-hot rage and damaged psyche that threatens to upstage the core romantic plot about Peter and Gwen's relationship.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer, A Critical Discussion

Andrew Garfield Emma Stone

The latest trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been released and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. The opening shot of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man free-falling through New York is the visual equivalent of a roller coaster, thrilling and putting you on the edge of your seat for the rest of the trailer.

The Amazing Spider Man 2The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The CGI used looks to be the most impressive of all Spider-Man movies so far (including the unceremoniously halted McGuire movies). The trailer doesn’t have the darkness of recent superhero movies, Peter Parker isn’t brooding and troubled like Nolan’s The Dark Knight or Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. “You know what it is I love about being Spider-Man?” Garfield asks as the trailer opens, “Everything.”

What The Latest Trailer Tells Us About 'Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Andrew Garfield Emma Stone Jamie Foxx

At nearly four minutes long, the latest trailer for Amazing Spider-Man 2 packed in as much action as the Superbowl when the full length version finally debuted on Sunday. The clip has given us some answers along with more questions, plenty of gasps and even a few laughs as we prepared for the latest Spider-Man instalment. So here’s what we learnt from the Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer.

Andrew Garfield as Spider-ManAndrew Garfield as Spider-Man finds a new enemy in Electro

What does Peter Parker love about being Spider-Man? Everything.
Maybe he’s speaking too soon, but while sitting, looking out on New York we hear Peter Parker say, "you know what it is I love about being Spider-Man? Everything.” Whilst job satisfaction is usually a good thing you cant help but worry about what’s to come for our geeky hero.

Superheroes get the worst groupies.
You’d expect Spider-Man to have to deal with his fair share of hero worshippers, but after saving Max Dillon, played by the fantastic Jamie Foxx, Spider-Man is left with the most fanatical of all fanboys who not only worships the masked hero but is heard repeating. “I wish I was like him.” Which leads us into…

The shock of Electro.
It doesn't take that long for Max Dillion’s wish to be more like his hero to come true, but not in the way he'd of hoped. The birth of Electro is revealed as we see Foxx’s character falling into a pool of water brimming with electric eels. He then takes his frustration out on a crowded Times Square and comes face to face with his former hero and now nemesis, Spider-Man.

After Three Years Of "Meh" 'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark' Musical Is Off Broadway

Bono Andrew Garfield

Whoever thought doing a Spider-Man musical was a good idea shouldn’t be allowed to write things down, because it wasn’t, and after a huge waste of time, money and effort, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has officially been removed from Broadway and shipped out to Vegas. The whole thing has been a nightmare, with major injuries and huge, high-profile legal cases blighting the musical’s progress.

The thing cost $75m to create (making it the most expensive musical ever), and while the show has grossed $203m, the high - $1m-per-week! - running costs have rendered it a financial disaster. Producer Jeremiah J Harris thinks a reconfigured version of the show will prosper in a different city, according to The New York Times.

"We could run for probably another three to five years being stuck in the middle. We think it will play Las Vegas with a greater bang than it did in New York,” explained Harris. “Economically we have a greater opportunity in the Las Vegas market," added the producer, who said the show would return in 2015.

Andrew Garfield On A Gay Spiderman: "That's Just Not Going To Work"

Andrew Garfield Emma Stone Jamie Foxx Michael B. Jordan

Andrew Garfield has progressive ideas for Spiderman. Earlier this month, the British-American star mused on the idea of Spidey turning gay, "Why can't we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It's hardly even groundbreaking!" he said, in conversation with Entertainment Weekly.

The comic-book characters certainly need to move in fresh directions, whether it be time, place, or something more specific to the characters, such as gender, race or sexual orientation. The Avengers moved forward a little, the Dark Knight franchise featured giant strides for Batman, and - to some extent - The Wolverine pushed things on with its Japanese setting.

This week at San Diego Comic-Con, Garfield revisited his ideas though assured the crowd that Spiderman will not be turning gay anytime soon.

At the Mecca of Geekdom - the San Diego Comic-Con International - the annual Comic-Con kick started in front of an eager audience this Thursday (July 18), with the our-day event already revealing some rather juicy pieces of information about what future films and TV shows have in store. Here's what we know so far, following the first two days of geeky gossip at the annual gathering.

Cobie Smulders
Smulders appeared in the 'Agents' pilot

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was one of the biggest talking points of the firsts two days, as ABC's Avenger's spin-off was discussed by a panel including Avengers director Joss Whedon and Agents... star Clark Gregg. Gregg discussed the miraculous recovery of his Avengers character Agent Phil Coulson, who was 'killed' by Loki in the first Avengers film only to return in time for his own starring series. Revelers got more than just a frank talk, as they were treated to a world premiere of the pilot episode for Agents..., which featured fellow Avengers star Cobie Smulders and was directed by Whedon. For those of you who weren't at Comic-Con, the series premieres on September 24.

'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Teaser Launched: First Look At Jamie Foxx As Creepy Electro [Video]

Jamie Foxx Andrew Garfield Emma Stone Paul Giamatti

A chilling teaser clip has been released ahead of the release of Spider-Man 2 showing new villain Electro played by Jamie Foxx. Comic-Con fans got the first glimpse of the scary new baddie this weekend, in a clip that shows Electro AKA Max Dillon attached to the machine that bestows him with his unique electrical super powers. We see wires, we see pipes, we hear a menacingly rasping voice taking to an unknown off-screen character "I can feel it in the walls," he says. "I feel it in my veins. No matter what you do doc, you can't contain it. "You wanna know how powerful I am? Well I would love to. I'm Electro!" Not exactly original for any action movie bad guy but still, chills.

At a first - and very brief glance - Jamie Foxx's Electro does look like an electrocuted version The Da Vinci Code's self-flagellating sect member Silas and his portrayal of the originally green-suited, yellow-masked zappmeister is somewhat darker than Marvel Comics probably would have intended. However, the Django Unchained actor's version of Electro is one that fits more closely with Marvel's Ultimate Universe, where the character's powers are a product of bioengineering, rather than a freak accident.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4' Are On Their Way As Andrew Garfield Signs Up For Two More Spidey Films

Andrew Garfield Paul Giamatti Emma Stone Jamie Foxx Spider Man

Andrew Garfield has committed himself to the Amazing Spider-Man movie franchise by agreeing to appear in a further two films with Sony Pictures. The production company announced the franchise's expansion into four movies in a statement release on Monday (June 17), although no other information was released about the film, so feel free to let your imagination run wild.

Garfield is going to go one further than Tobey Maguire did in his turn as Spiderman and the actor is already filming the finishing touches for the second Amazing Spider-Man film, which is due out in May next year. The studio also announced that the films will be released in relatively quick succession, just as the second film is swiftly wrapping up with filming. The studio announced that the third and fourth instalments of the film will be release on June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018 respectively.

Before we can begin to think about the third and fourth films, let take the time to relish what we have in store when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is released. Garfield's Spidey has all kinds of trouble to deal with this time round, with his personal problems going to heck when Peter Parker's other love interest, Mary Jane Watson (Shailene Woodley) shows up, much to the displeasure of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy. If his personal life wasn't hectic enough, there's two baddies around this time for him to battle, with Paul Giamatti playing a gangster-fied version of Rhino and Jamie Foxx set to send sparks flying as Electro. The fittingly named Marc Webb will return to direct too.

3rd & 4th Instalments Of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Have Been Agreed By Sony

Andrew Garfield Spider Man Jamie Foxx Paul Giamatti

Whilst filming for the sequel of 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man is still underway, the bosses at Sony Pictures have already decided that they will extend the film franchise for another two film, at the very least, after it was announced that a third and fourth follow-on to the superhero movie have already been place in pre-production.

In an announcement made by Sony Pictures bosses on Monday (June 17), current Spidey Andrew Garfield has agreed to stop on for the planned films and filming for the movies will beging almost as soon as Spidey 2 has been distributed. The studio announced that the third and fourth instalments of the film will be release on June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018 respectively.

In slightly more current news, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due in cinemas by May 2, 2014, and features a similar make-up to its predecessor in terms of personel worKing on the project. Like the 2012 movie, Garfield will return as the web-slinging hero and the fittingly named Marc Webb will return to direct. Emma Stone returns as Gwen Stacy, with Shailene Woodley joining the cast as Peter Parker's other love interest, Mary Jane Watson. Chris Cooper will appear as Norman Osborn and Dane DeHaan will play his son Harry, with Paul Giamatti and Jamie Foxx set to portray the two villainous roles as Rhino and Electro respectively.

'The Amazing Spider Man 2' filming continued to get underway in New York on Sunday (May 26th 2013) leaving behind it a trail of destruction on the City streets.

A particularly devastating scene was spotted being filmed, with a mass of crashed, overturned and ablaze vehicles littering the set. Andrew Garfield was in his Spider Man garb as he addressed onlookers from atop a smashed up car through a loudspeaker. He is also seen approaching a young boy in a copycat outfit who, after what looks like a pep talk with Peter Parker's alter-ego, subsequently flees the riotous scene. The scene is the latest of on set sneak peeks that have slowly been accumulating after snaps emerged of 'Django Unchained' star Jamie Foxx showing off his new look as the blue villain Electro and Paul Giamatti from 'Cinderella Man' making a fierce appearance as equally evil baddie The Rhino. Meanwhile, Emma Stone has revealed a MAJOR spoiler about her own character (though we won't reveal it for those who haven't read the prophetic comics).

Jamie Foxx Has Got The Blues As Electro In 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Jamie Foxx Andrew Garfield Emma Stone Chris Cooper Dane DeHaan Paul Giamatti Felicity Jones

Everyone got a glimpse of Jamie Foxx as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in some newly released pictures from the set of the movie.

In the stills, Foxx is seen wearing creepy blue makeup and a grey hood. This means that the movie will significantly deviate from the original version of the villain, which was portrayed wearing a bright green suit with a yellow lightning mask. According to the LA Times, this portrayal of Electro will more closely resemble his Ultimate incarnation, which also has a different backstory – being the result of genetic experimentation, instead of a power line accident. It isn’t clear yet how much of the back story the producers plan to keep, but Foxx did give the reasons behind the choice of costume in an interview with Blackfilm back in December: “They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won’t be green and yellow,” he said. “They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen [sic]. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff.”

Sounds pretty cool to us. The sequel to the 2012 film is due in May of next year and, as previously announced, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will be reprising their roles. Additionally, Shailene Woodley will join the cast as Mary Jane Watson, Chris Cooper and Dane DeHaan as Norman Osborn and his son Harry, Paul Giamatti reportedly as villain the Rhino, and Colm Feore and Felicity Jones in roles yet to be announced.

Emma Stone's Sex Tape Does Not Feature Andrew Garfield

Emma Stone Andrew Garfield Stephen Merchant Richard Gere

Emma Stone's alleged sex-tape does not feature her Amazing Spider-Man co-star and current boyfriend Andrew Garfield. RadarOnline.com previously reported how a home video of the Easy A star was in existence, though the website claims her beau Garfield is nowhere to be seen.

Stone, 24, is said to have "a wild streak that has culminated itself in the form of a homemade sex romp". Hmm. Radar even quote a source privy to the clip, who says, "Emma Stone has a sex tape and that's a fact. She made it long before she started dating Andrew Garfield and before she really became a household name. She was just young and probably thought nothing would ever come of it." The good news for the actress is that the tape is yet to be shopped around and "remains in the hands of the person she made it with." However, the source warns, "but that doesn't mean there's any guarantee that it won't eventually hit the market. The higher Emma's star rises, the more valuable that tape becomes."

Though it's worked pretty well for Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton, the release of a tape would likely hinder Stone's promising Hollywood career. In fact, an insider said, "There's no way she would organize the release of the tape; in fact, she would fight to stop it." The actress next stars in comedy Movie 43, alongside Stephen Merchant and Richard Gere.

Jamie Foxx Set To Star As Spiderman Villain Electro

Jamie Foxx Marc Webb Andrew Garfield Emma Stone

Jamie Foxx is set to give another electric performance (sorry) in the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spiderman, as the superhero's nemesis, Electro, Variety reports.

According to sources, Foxx is deep into discussions to play the role, and tweeted, "Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well," which won't have served to dampen any rumours, that's for sure. Much like Spiderman, who of course was bitten by a radioactive spider, Electro harnesses the power of electricity due a close encounter with a lighting bolt. You would have thought the pair might bond over their shared experiences, but no. Talking yesterday to Coming Soon, the aptly named director Marc Webb said, "I think Jamie Foxx is electrifying!" and added, "I think Jamie Foxx is one of the best actors around today. He's such a great character actor and he's a really brilliant guy. I would love to work with him and you'll be hearing more on that shortly, I'm sure." Now he didn't move to confirm the rumours, but if we don't see Foxx terrorising and Spiderman coming to the rescue, we'll be disappointed.

In the interview, Webb also added his admiration for Electro in particular. "I like Electro," he smiled. "I'm fascinated by Norman Osborn and the different inflections of him. And Harry. Mary Jane and Gwen are always interesting to me."

The Amazing Spider Man Review

Very Good
Just 10 years after Sam Raimi's now-iconic Spider-man, Marvel has decided to tell the character's origin story again, using a slightly different mythology. The main difference is the presence of appropriately named director Marc Webb, whose last film was the imaginative romantic-comedy (500) Days of Summer. Sure enough, the interpersonal drama is the best thing about this reboot. Much less successful is the action storyline, which feels awkwardly forced into the film to justify its blockbuster status.

A huge asset here is gifted lead actor Andrew Garfield, who takes on the role of Peter Parker with real passion. Peter is a 17-year-old science nerd in high school who has real depth due to his personal history. Growing up in New York with his aunt and uncle (Field and Sheen) after his parents disappeared, he's more than a little unsettled when the object of his secret crush, sexy-brainy Gwen (Stone), notices him. Meanwhile, he's bitten by a mutant spider and develops some strange powers, which he exercises by chasing down bad guys all over the city.
