Andrew Garfield was delighted to win the role of SPIDER-MAN - because he always dreamed of playing the superhero and even argued with his best friend about who would make the best web-slinger.
The Social Network actor has been chosen to star in a new prequel, taking over from Tobey Maguire, who quit the franchise last year (10) after three Spider-Man movies.
Garfield admits the casting is a strange twist of fate - as he used to practice famous lines from the original 2002 movie with his friend Terry, and each would insist they were the perfect candidate to play the superhero.
Garfield tells Britain's The Sun, "Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words, 'With great power comes great responsibility'. This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-Man.
"I would be in the mirror practising his final line over and over and over again, and me and Terry would diss each other's interpretations of it. He would constantly say... 'No, no, you'll never be Spider-Man. I'll be Spider-Man.'
"So as soon as I got the news I emailed him and was like, 'Hey dude, remember six years ago when we were talking about who would be Spider-Man? You didn't get it!'
"We laughed and laughed about it. But we really were obsessed with that film."
