Could Spider-Man appear in Captain America 3?
Sony could go back into negotiations with Marvel concerning the Spider-Man character following the departure of Amy Pascal as chairman. It is probable that Sony Pictures chairman-CEO Michael Lynton will tinker with projects include The Amazing Spider-Man 3 but sequels to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo are very much in doubt.
Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been pushed back until 2018
The biggest decision will indeed by how to handle the Spider-Man franchise. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did decent business at the box-office but was slaughtered by the critics. There had been talks of letting Marvel Studios take some control of the direction of the character and with Pascal out of the picture, Sony may be open to renegotiating with the superhero studio, according to Variety.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was recently pushed back to 2018 - widely regarded as Sony having no idea where to take the Andrew Garfield vehicle after its predecessor's reviews. Sony has a couple of other comic-book movies in development, including Sinister Six set for November 11, 2016 and the studio hopes to be a strong competitor against the likes of Disney/Marvel's Avengers and Warner Bros' Justice League. The studio also has Uncharted - based on the PlayStation videogame series - hits in June 10, 2016.

As for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - the sequels are certainly in Sony's thinking but the middling $230 million made by David Fincher's movie has hardly sent it to the top of the priority list. Pascal's departure leaves the sequels in doubt.
For now, Sony can rest safe in the knowledge that its Ghostbusters, 21 Jump Street and Men in Black franchises will see it through (a leaked email suggested merging the latter two), though it will be interesting to see how Lynton plays things from hereon in.
