'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Gets Thumbs-Up: Are You Ready USA?

It must be pretty frustrating for American fans of the Spider-Man franchise who are left drumming their fingers on the table waiting to be the last country to experience this Marvel superhero sequel. With only two days to go, the excitement towards Marc Webb's epic action movie is palpable and it will all be worth it - if you listen to what most critics are saying.

In All, 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Has Gone Down Well With Critics.

A jam-packed movie sees Peter Parker (Adnrew Garfield), AKA Spidey, battle a vicious wave of new foes, including Jamie Foxx's super-charged villain Electro and Dane DeHaan's wicked Green Goblin. However, young Peter has a tricky balancing act to do, making sure that his Aunt May (Sally Field) is kept in the dark about his powerful alter-ego and that his relationship girlfriend Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) is maintained despite the relentless onslaught of baddies.

As a whole, critics have praised Webb's directing as well as the infallible acting of the film's key cast. However, the movie's busy script is often marked down as is a rather stunted dialogue that forces the movie to rely upon the high budget digital effects to keep moving along.

Slate criticises the film's "spiraling-out histories and detours that are as inconsequential as they are unconvincing," explaining "This surplus of story not only makes the few kinetic plot lines and action sequences feel rushed, but it also drowns out the welcome sense of pulpy characterization that the filmmakers indulge."

Vanity Fair's opinion on the movie's business teeters on the edge of negativity but decides that the plot is eventually richer for it: "It gets pretty crowded, but the movie does a nice job of weaving the various stories together, the tension and stakes ever rising on the way to the film's big, bruising climax."

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Sees Peter Parker Battling A New & Evil Influx Of Villains.

The NY Daily News is downright emphatic in its heavy-handed praise for Webb's interpretation of the comics, saying "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is [.] filled with high-energy action. But this fleshed-out sequel also tackles an iconic grown-up moment in comic-book history with nary a hitch."

The NY Post gives the film one of its worst scoring reviews, complaining " It's as much computer program as movie" and "the effects are often lackluster, especially in an insipid, useless closing battle and in a mid-movie spectacle in which Times Square gets destroyed and it looks like the CGI program was set to "rough draft.""

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Tobey Maguire split audiences with his often sullen portrayal but British star Garfield regularly crops up in reviews as the most effective aspect of the film. "Garfield is possibly the best actor to ever star in any Marvel Comics-based flick," remarks NY Daily News, adding "His great depth hoisted 2012's "The Amazing Spider-Man" to levels it almost didn't deserve."

Above All, Peter & Gwen Must Fight To Keep Their Relationship Strong.

The movie also benefits from Garfield and Stone's real life romance, says Joe Neumaier, noting that the pair "have a palpable connection that director Marc Webb uses to bolster Peter and Gwen's love story to full effect," adding that "Stone is both glamour-girl gorgeous and heartbreakingly normal."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is out now in the UK and will be released on the 2nd May in the USA.
