The incident occurred last week when Dick was out in Hollywood riding his bike. According to reports in TMZ, the actor was cycling along Hollywood Boulevard when he approached a man wearing a large chain. Dick requested to see the chain and the man, recognising Dick from his films and television appearances, handed it to the actor. Dick reportedly then cycled off with the chain.
Soon after the victim reported the incident to the police but the authorities were unable to locate Dick until late on Friday night (7th November). Reports in People claim Dick was arrested and charged with felony grand theft. He was released after posting $25,000 bail and is due to appear in court on 4th December.

Dick has previously had trouble with the police, as Reuters reports. In 2008 he was arrested in California on suspicion of pulling down a teenage girl's top at a restaurant. Two years later, he was apprehended after reportedly grabbing a man's crotch at a bar in West Virginia.
Dick has also struggled with substance abuse as he revealed whilst appearing on Sober House, a spin-off of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. On the show he revealed the numerous incidents were a direct result of his addictions.
